Hi everyone, hope you are all staying safe during this crazy time!

I am a current university student and am conducting an online research study for my dissertation. I am focusing on a sample of adults who identify as having autism, and wanted to post my study onto this forum to ask for any willing participants! The study will ask questions on specific interests, contact with the Criminal Justice System and anger. I have been granted full ethical approval for the study. You will be provided with a full information sheet and debrief during the course of the study if you choose to take part. Any information you provide will remain entirely confidential and this participation is completely voluntary. I would massively appreciate anyone who has a spare 20 minutes to take part.

The link is down below - I have added two spaces into the link as it wouldn’t let me attach it earlier! So if you could copy and paste the link into your browser, removing the space after http:// and the space after qualtrics. then it should work :D

http:// nclpsych.eu.qualtrics. com/jfe/form/SV_cLTZDL7vbrARP6J

Thank you so much and take care!

Hmm... maybe I would participate... but then again, maybe not.

Rumor has it that I may be coaxed into doing things with the promise of chocolate, a bottle of wine, or an Amazon gift card.

How can we be certain that this is no more than an attempt to acquire our personal data?

:?

No personal data will be asked for during the course of the study - only your gender and age. There will be a full information sheet and debrief before agreeing to take part in the study so that would clarify any questions you may have, and the study has full ethical approval. If you would like to take part then let me know, thanks!

There is no prize unfortunately, but you would be massively helping me out during a very stressful time. Participation is entirely voluntary but if you are interested then please let me know. Thanks!

As long as I don't have to identify personally, just my age and gender, I would love to help out.

Just a college student doing a study, just give factual answers in private messages and don't give your real name or email.

Nothing devious I don't think.

Seems a rather iffy way of conducting research.  The OP could just as easily roll dice on an RPG reaction table and write down each result.  That way, she would get a nice bell curve in the statistics and not have to concern herself with vetting each respondent.

Thank you so much, that would be amazing! Yes just your age and gender will be asked for - all information provided will remain strictly confidential and you will not be identifiable from any information you provide. I have now been able to put the link to the study in my main forum post, along with instructions, so if you could let me know once you have completed it then I would be so grateful! Thank you so much :D

Exactly, nothing devious at all, just wanting to give people with autism a voice through my research! :)
If you would also like to take part then I have now been able to put the link to the study in my main forum post, along with instructions. All information provided will remain strictly confidential and you would not be identifiable from any information you provide. Thank you!

I understand your concerns, but this is just the way that universities ask us to do our research. Participation is entirely voluntary so you do not have to take part if you are not comfortable, but I have put the link in my main forum post if you change your mind :)

What is the aim of this research?
How did OP choose this site?
What area of specialized study is OP working on?
Are there other people conducting similar surveys to op's on other sites/with other people that are going to be derived and analyzed?
This is a dissertation, is the specialized area of subject-matter expertise in criminology or psychology specific?

Here is a copy and pasted version of the information sheet included at the start of the study :D :

You are invited to take part in a psychological study as part of an MSc Forensic Psychology Project at Newcastle University. The study is being supervised by Dr Marc Woodbury-Smith.

This study was approved by the Faculty of Medical Sciences Research Ethics Committee, part of Newcastle University's Research Ethics Committee. This committee contains members who are internal to the Faculty, as well as one external member. This study was reviewed by members of the committee, who must provide impartial advice and avoid significant conflicts of interests.

This research is aimed at understanding the link between the nature of interests and contact with the Criminal Justice System among individuals with autism, whilst also studying feelings of anger. This will involve completing an online questionnaire which is split into four sections, and should take around 20 minutes to complete.

You are reminded at this stage that participation in this research is entirely voluntary, and you have a right to withdraw at any time without having to state a reason. Some questions or statements posed in the study could be viewed as sensitive in nature, such as those surrounding potentially illegal behaviours. Therefore, if you feel uncomfortable with any of the questions, you may refrain from answering. Any responses which you give will remain entirely confidential, whereby data will be completely anonymised and stored securely. Only the researchers will have access to your responses. The information you provide will be used as part of a thesis project, but may be written up for scientific publication in a completely anonymised format. You will not be identifiable and would be in no way traceable should any data be published. At the end of the questionnaire, you will be shown a full debrief, which will explain the aims of the research in more depth.

Please only complete this questionnaire if you are an adult with autism over the age of 18.
