The foot specialist saw me yesterday . I told her I had a sore right sole . She said I'm a heel walker . I'd never heard of that before.

Neither have I: did she specify what is meant by the term?

I know I get soreness on my heels and large amounts of calloused skin there (I used to slice it off with scissors and puncture the blisters underneath, but Mrs K has informed me that’s not the done thing and introduced me to a pumice stone).
Never been told I was walking in an odd way though...

Did she offer you any inner soles or corrective measures to prevent exacerbation? I had a friend many years ago who was "pigeon toed" and had a slower, clumsy gait.

She didn't specify . I have a high instep and flat feet apparently . Years ago I had insoles specially made for my shoes. The headmaster's wife at the prep school I went to had me doing exercises . I stopped having the insoles around the age of 15 because they kept getting lost at the public school I went to , and were expensive to replace . It was undoubtedly boys who thought it OK to bully me that took the insoles . Both my youngest stepdaughter and my late wife have commented on my gait. That it's not exactly normal.

Well you have managed to get around so far :D
Now we need to prevent soreness and discomfort as much as possible. Your foot specialist needs to provide some solution.

She did say I needed something to cushion my feet from what she says is a hard floor . Unless I'm going out I don't wear shoes . She suggested sandals that are like boots(or something like that) . It went in one ear and out the other! S/daughter is going to phone her .

That sounds like a plan :D

Mine have been less painful since I took to wearing crocs round the house.
I also started rubbing them with body shop hemp foot protector after bathing at the same time.

Birkenstocks saved my life and my feet. They shape to your foot like butter.

I'm always barefoot in my house but if I slip them on to pop outside now and then they fix any pain, and the relief lasts for weeks. They're like a "reset" for me.

I've used custom orthotics but they are difficult to fit inside most footwear, and like you said they're very expensive. I don't find them anywhere near as comfortable my Berks.

I've had the same pair for 11 years and they're still in perfect shape.
