is. (Oh, I hate titles cutting off like that.)

Tell your stories!

I went on a trip to Europe with my grade 11 class in 2005 and some do-gooder from my old school had faxed my information to the new school when she heard what school I was going to. (We hadn't told them anything at this school). The guidance counselor, without asking me or my parents first, told my group (we were divided into groups for attendance; the group leader took the attendance of the six others in the group... it's faster than trying to count 70 heads) that I had Asperger's Syndrome! When my father went to a meeting for parents of kids who were going on the trip, the guidance counselor told him that he had told my group that I had AS (so that they'd know what to expect if I did or said something freaky!) and that he had put me in a group that he thought I would fit in (that's cool, nothing wrong with that :D ) and that it was so that they'd know why I didn't make eye contact if I didn't ( nothing really wrong with that; he knew I was shy but I didn't want them knowing I had AS, for complex reasons) he thought I was very courageous to go on the trip since most people with AS wouldn't what to leave what they were used to. My father told him, "You don't know Ana. Wanting to do something like this is perfectly normal for her." :D My mother was a bit miffed at him because she knew I would be, but she decided not to say anything, and I ended up just pretending I didn't know or didn't care, and not saying anything either. I was embarrassed, scared of what I would say, how I would cover up to prevent the rumor from spreading.

I'll vote for "2 or more of the above" because I felt all of them. Now tell your stories!

EDIT: what happened to my last poll option? Anyway, I voted for "other".

I'd feel very insulted if somebody was to make that presumption about me. I've worked very hard to hide my negative traits and enhance my positive ones, since I was fifteen. I'm thirty two going on thirty three.

If people change their manner when they talk to you, then it's condescending. They don't think you can handle reality and need to make concessions. So obviously it's insulting.
Parents are protective of their kids no matter what (at least good parents are).

I feel frustrated and annoyed with myself for being like this. I am having problems with this at the moment and feel I can't live up to my true potential. Although I am treated with respect I am not included in wider discussions where I could express my ideas because I can't talk effectively. My verbal intelligence is probably somewhere between ret*d and average but my IQ is over 140.

I try to stay on top of people's motives, knowledge sets, areas of expertise, intelligence levels, and trends in behavior, then, I "test" people to make sure they do follow the workup in my head, if not, it's kinda scary. Which is why I don't like new people, there is no mental model there, so I have no idea how to relate to them.

I don't have a story persay, but anytime things start happening in a spontaneous manner I get scared.

Ah; so you get scared that you may be psychotic. :)

Zee, I too feel condescended and insulted when people treat me different, like I'm less able in certain areas, after they hear someone say I have AS.

DISCRIMINATION!
