I noticed that there are SO many boys named Ben (Benjamin and I think other names) and Alex (Alexander and I think other names) who are autistic! I know of more boys with those names who are autistic than boys with those names who aren't... I know of about 10 Bens with autism and 10 Alexes with autism. And Chrises (Christophers, Christians) too. I haven't noticed it with any other very common name. This is interesting...

That's freaky.

Well, I'm not called Ben or Alex or Chris.

There are loads of Rafaels in the area where I live though. None that I know are autistic.

I can't say that I've necessarily noticed it with autistics so much, but I have noticed personalities matching up with names in certain areas. Every Christina I have met has been pretty ruthless as a person (no offense to anyone here by that name), most of the Christophers I have met were kind of jerky (again, no offense) including my cousin... Liz's always seem really laid back and kind of nerdy around here, same with Mikes.

I don't know if it is something I'm subconsciously categorizing them as though based on name matching up with personality. For all I know, everyone could act like this and I would have no clue, lol, I tend to focus a bit on the names sometimes. It is odd.

lol, were you meaning me? Nah, real life. I'm not social, but I observe plenty when forced into a social situation. My cousins have get togethers a lot, and a lot of their friends are there, my mother has things as well, so when my cousins are involved, their friends come along. I observe lots of arguing, backstabbing, rudeness, etc. through that. I just sit in the corner and watch sometimes to get an idea of what all is going on. This happens in class too when it comes to group projects and such, and I notice cashier names in the stores sometimes. My generalized observation is also over years and years of meeting different people with the same names and different character traits. On-line people I never really take into account their name vs. personality, because it doesn't mean either are real, and if they are, I don't associate it with real people still. So it's all off of 27 years (well, more like 24 if you take into account I didn't even really notice people at all until I was 3 or 4, and my memory around then is limited of course) worth of watching people in classes, hearing about crap when passing them, being stuck in the middle of a conversation when trying to get to the other side of the room, etc.

So maybe it's the "Rich" part in the name that triggers the autism. :)

This was all explained in the movie Pi. If you watch that and you don't understand, try the chapter in the book Freakonomics about how people name their kids.

The cosmic connections are there. We just need to pluck the strings.

Out of six kids for this generation in my extended family, 4 of them have a variant of the name "Chris". I don't and my cousin doesn't; I'm the only one with AS for this generation. I know one guy with AS who's named Ben; I know four others who don't have it. All of the Alexs I know (over half a dozen) don't either.

I think it's more of a coincidence than anything else; remember, every year there are popular names (which tend to remain popular for quite some time). It's natural that the chances for that name be increased.
