Is singing considered a stim?
I have heard of it being referred to as such and am curious as when I am especially stressed etc, even when out in public, I will start singing to whatever I am listening to and it gives me that sense of comfort, even euphoria.

I do occasionally sing in the car and when I'm alone in the house. Singing the Lumberjack Song when my brother was around made him create a cruel parody, though.

Now Im curious about the parody  If thats ok.

There are certain songs that I cant help but to scream/sing along to when I hear them because they sound so great to me. Even if its a song that I dont know the words because its foriegn or something, Im still able to make the appropriate pronunciations so it sounds right.

heh, i sing at work sometimes, usually when I get the feeling people around me think im being to quiet (half the time i work in silence, maby more). I dont consider this a stim at least for me because im using singing differently, for different reasons. OFten i sing along with song being played over the radio but insert my own words to make it funny, and often to rip on some ppl working around me (all good humor) and im very good at it, as typically people laugh and even sing along!

I have sung since a very young child, whenever I had the chance and when I couldn't I would get stressed out. I needed to be able to go to my room, put on my music and sing to release stress. Still the same. I cannot play a song with out singing it as well. Just listening isn't enough.

Usually running is my stim, but today I couldn't go running while my mom was at the store, so I started singing along to the song I was listening to on my iPod and it made me feel a lot better.

I tend to hum or sing when I feel overwhelmed, stressed. I love singing, it calms me.

There are times when I sing more than others, but it can definitely be like a stim for me, I think.

It certainly works that way for me. I used to sing walking down the hall in junior high school. I sing all day. It keeps me feeling alive. I used to sing without any sense of being in tune but I learned how to listen to myself. I used to listen to npr on my commute down to new haven, now I sing out, bouncing along in my seat.

I STILL don't understand stims. I do some things, and they DO make me feel better, etc, but I wouldn't say "euphoric". I consider them stims only because they are odd, subconcious, and not habitual or involuntary. Also, some are somewhat common for autistics. Just yesterday, I was studying something on the computer and noticed I was rocking back and rubbing my upper legs. Pretty involved/rythmic for something I was doing without thinking, etc...

Earlier, I would have thought of it as an odd quirk. But what should I think?

I sing to myself a lot, but I don't consider it a stim.

I believe I have understated how much I tend to sing....I do sing alot..sometimes loudly when I am alone and doing stuff....sometimes in public where other people can hear me (when I don't remind myself not to)....it blends right in with the talking to myself, animals, plants and inanimate objects....i call it verbal stimming....in addition to singing and talking to things, I also make sorta scatting sounds.....doh doh doh....dopey doh...etc....

I wonder how many people I annoy on a regulat basis.
