I don't scare easily, but some stuff is going on that is REALLY pushing my antidepressants to the limits!

First, as 85% of Americans know, our 'president' is messing things up BAD.

Now I caught this!! (click for link)
Here's the summery:
Drumbeat For Attack on Iran Grows Louder in Washington
Talk about a U.S. attack on Iran appears to be growing louder in Washington. There are reports that Vice President Dick Cheney's office has issued instructions to conservative think tanks to start a drumbeat for attacking Iran. On Monday the American Enterprise Institute is hosting two events related to Iran. Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich is giving a speech on how the war on terrorism should be viewed as a "a world war that pits civilization against terrorists and their state sponsors who wish to impose a new dark age." Later in the day former CIA director Jim Woolsey and others will meet to discuss a new book by longtime Iran hawk Michael Leeden titled "The Iranian Time Bomb: The Mullah Zealots" Quest for Destruction." The Heritage Foundation recently hosted an interagency Bush administration war game attempting to anticipate Iranian responses to a U.S. bombing campaign. Meanwhile the Sunday Times of London has reported the Pentagon has drawn up plans for massive air strikes against twelve hundred targets in Iran, designed to annihilate the Iranians' military capability in three days. The main source of the article was an official at another conservative Washington think tank – the Nixon Center.

That scares me to death. I'm a good American! I served my country in the Army, and I love my country enough to ask questions and criticize it when needed. I do not agree with Bush's Oil-War in Iraq and soon Iran. To those ppl that say it's not about the oil, just think. If the main export was broccoli instead of oil, would we be there? Of course not!

I have it it with the people that have run this country for about the past 200 years or so, now more than ever.

I have entertained the idea of just leaving back when Bush was 'selected' to be president the first time. I looked into Canada. It was close, has English speaking (for the majority) citizens, better healthcare, etc..

Now I'm having those ideas again.

I know that Ana is trying to set up a commune in the Great White North. I've followed it with a casual interest for a while, but it's looking like a more viable potential option all of the time!!

Any input?

How hard Canadian citizenship to get?

Am I insane?

Sadly I find it's every bit as easy to read the paper/watch the news and get stressed about politicians doing ridiculous things that you can't control in my country as it is in yours.

Very true Sarah, and of course, Welcome To The Wrong Planet!! !

But I find Canadian, and English politics much less vomit-inducing, if you know what I mean!! !

Sometimes I feel like I would want to leave this country eventually, but I really like what I have here, so I don't see that happening. Bush will be gone soon. I'm hoping to see Obama or Christopher Walken run for president.

I guess it's all on a scale. But we've been watching David Cameron make ever more ludicrous proposals and actually go up in the polls at the same time. I have also been wondering why no one talks about the fact that both of our main parties want a new generation of nuclear power stations.

Actually the ammount of cash Obama has taken from big companies so far, looks bad.

Dennis Kucinich seem to be about the most level headed in the bunch, and he has a hot young, tall wife! 8O

It's not really a democracy any more, it's like a puppet autocracy of sorts, with Rove and Dick 'the Dick' Cheney pulling all of the strings!

You should look into moving to Canada.

If you look at American history, it really seems like we've never been in a situation of peace for more than 5-10 years at a time. The future is always uncertain, and the more you try to make it happen before it's ready, the more stressed you'll become. As much as I hate to admit it sometimes, I don't even pay attention to the news anymore. The same thing will happen no matter how informed I am, and the only input I really have is in electing politicians (who are not perfect and can mess things up despite having good intentions).

It's tough, but try to shut yourself off from political news sources and instead focus on news of scientific breakthroughs or other interesting things. That will keep you informed, but in a different area so you won't always feel either "out of the loop" or depressed.

I know.. I try to ignore it, to submerge myself into the corp. run news media, and the Anna Nicole, Britney Spears stories make me ill.

Heck I just bought one of those new iPods, and still I can't even get excited

i would like to know this aswell. i think i read somewhere you have to pay and take a test and wait for a year? im not too shure, but americas political landscape wont change if one or two things dont happen.

1. the two party system is completely debolished
2. america stops being the world police

Piece of cake!!

Bush and his barnyard palls have managed to eliminate the other two branches of government, and they've made the Democrats into their 8itches on a lot of policies.

So to summarize, Democrats are on the inside what Republicans are on the outside

As for stopping being the world police, that what the Marshal plan was for, but as long as there's oil, America will feel the need to 'bring democracy' to the world!

MADDuck,

Yeah, I think you are insane. Do you really think the US would just attack someone with nuclear weapons? ESPECIALLY since they DO have neighboors, etc... As for it being about the OIL, if their main export was broccoli, they wouldn't have made NEARLY as much and would still be nomadic. EVERYTHING would be different. You guys talk like the US government gets all the oil and somehow benefits. NOPE! OPEC has been allowed to control prices for a LONG time.

ALSO, if the US is attacked, Canada will be one of the first to get hit by fallout, etc... So canada isn't safe.

BTW 200 years ago the government was apparently a LOT better! Social morality, guilt, being able to read the constitution, living up to things like NO private or domestic taxes! NO foreign wars! NO nuclear weapons, not even semiautomatic weapons. A LOT happened in the past 200 years. Do you realize that a contracting firm here is getting off because a fastener company supposedly had problems with its epoxy and a woman got killed? *************WHO CARES????***********! The contractors shouldn't have used epoxy to begin with! What's next, a cellophane company getting sued because it can replace car windshields and survive accidents? That makes about as much sense. I don't know why they didn't use crazy glue! THAT is advertised as being strong, and makes as much sense. I am kidding about the celophane and crazy glue, of course. I only WISH the other thing was a joke.

Sometimes I am shocked the human race is still here.
