Let's say you were watching an autism documentary with somebody who doesn't know you were on the spectrum, and the autism documentary was rather accurate in describing autism across the spectrum, which traits in the documentary would make the other person go, "oh, that sounds a bit like you there"?

I think with me it would be the obsessions. If I was to watch an autism documentary with my husband, he'd most likely say, "hey, you get obsessed with stuff too..." Well, even then I'm not certain he'd say that, because it was 11 years into our relationship before I developed an obsession or "special interest" with something, so it doesn't really define me. And about the loud noises, I only get uncomfortable with sudden loud noises because of my nerves more so than my ears, and only a very selective few sounds I can't stand like the noise the neighbours make above. But I have a normal tolerance to other sounds like dogs barking and fireworks and loud environments, so I don't think my sound sensitivities are prominent enough to get people guessing.

ADHD might be a different story though. I know that if I were to watch an ADHD documentary with my husband he'd be yelling out, "that's you!" every five minutes lol. I have told him I have ADHD but he keeps forgetting what it stands for, so whenever I spell it out he says "oh yes, you're definitely hyperactive with a short attention span!"

What are your most prominent ASD traits that could get others guessing if you were to watch an accurate documentary about autism with people who you haven't told?

Obsessions and being a bit repetitive and predictable. I like to plan meticulously and don't take kindly to my expectations not being met. But being a stress head about plans is something you get to experience when you know me well. Obsessions are front and centre though, beginners' level tutorial getting to know me stuff.
Lack of eye contact is probably the most clockable otherwise.

People often tell me that I'm honest and to the point. It's strange because in my head I'm mindfully applying filters to things but the result is still erring on side the blunt.

Poor executive function is probably the one that comes to mind first.

I say what I mean and I mean what I say to a point where some people get offended.

Being highly rational, having a heightened sense of justice, very honest, executive dysfunction, ADHD. As I said, I am the poster-boy for autism.

Taking what people say very literally, being super sensitive to noise, getting highly focused and obsessed with specific interests, struggling with eye contact, and speaking in a pretty mundane/monotone voice.

I am very analytical and rational which are both certainly the result of Autism!! !

Otherwise picky eating, repetition & poor executive function are my most prominent Autistic traits!

Limited range of emotion / exaggerated emotion. Rigidity. Lack of understanding of personal space. Can't be touched / too touchy ( I hate being touched by randos and at times, while desperately needing to hug someone at other times)

Unintentionally acting rude like being blunt or saying something wrong & suddenly not talking.
Very limited interests.
Being quiet instead of engaging in small talk.
Keeping to myself except for spending lots of time with my girlfriend.
Seeming angry or upset when not.
Being a very picky eater & when eating out sticking to the same restaurants & meals.
Only going to a few places by myself.

For me I think it's taking things literally, obsessions, sometimes I might be a little bit outspoken, if someone's saying something I'm not interested in I zone out.

Special interests, lack of a desire to socialize with other humans, sensory stuff but THE most profound for me is the special intrests.

Weirdly, people are one of my special interests so I often feel the most social when that special interest is at it's peak.

My romantic partners have always been my special interest. When I was single I guess trying to find a girlfriend was my special interest. Otherwise I generally rather avoid people & do my own thing. My special interests go through phases & I had different special interests at various points in my life. When I was employed I worked a lot & didn't have much time to focus on interests including special ones. However I've always had a very limited amount of interests & I dislike things lots of others consider fun.
