Abstract

Background. We measured psychopathic traits in boys with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) selected for difficult and aggressive behaviour.

Conclusions. Callous/psychopathic acts in a small number of individuals with ASD probably reflect a ‘double hit’ involving an additional impairment of empathic response to distress cues, which is not part and parcel of ASD itself.

That's good to know. What do you think about the personality types you meet on WP? Apart from some of the youngsters, most people come across as being pretty together. Having said that there's a couple of youngsters who seem to be remarkably together...

I'm not sure how anyone could really compare the two, most people with AS seem to fall into the "anxious perfectionist" personality type, which is the opposite of the psychopath/sociopath.

There are many personalities that I identify with on WP, perhaps more so than in a more diverse social group. I suspect they are the "P" types on the (questionable?) Myers Briggs scale. I don't identify with the "J"s as much, as they tend to make me want to run and hide in my shell. I could be completely wrong about this, not having mapped each to a personality. It is just an intuitive thought. And I sometimes get into trouble by expressing my thoughts out loud *wink*

Very much agree here - sadly there are some scoundrels of "researchers" like a certain C. Gillberg that claim we're "kind of" like psychopaths and that AS is co-morbid with antisocial personality disorder. Gillberg is a really sorry excuse of a researcher though, he's the kind that's sponsored by drug companies to try to make mental/neurological conditions look as bad as possible to get the companies to sell drugs. If you see anyone quoting Gillberg supporting some negative view on AS, remind them that this Gillberg is a complete fraud.
