can a mod clean up the kids forum? there seem to be a lot of posts by mich and nuetron189 still there and last I heard they where banned. the posts just seem to be taking up space... well, alot of them.

and while we're at it can we get some of the minors out of the mature issues forum??

A good idea would be to have the mods keep track of the age people are who post on the mature forum. Just out of curiosity, how old do you have to be to post in the mature forum?

OK, since I am a mod, I will answer both questions:

Kids Forum - We do not remove all of the posts of banned users simply because they were banned. We only remove the offensive posts.

Mature Forum - There is no fool proof way to keep minors out of the Mature Forum. Right now, we depend on the honor system but that will not keep minors out. Besides, do we make the age requirements based on US or European standards (which has different notions on what a minor is).

If I am not mistaken...WP is hosted on servers within the US, and I would therefore assume fall under the jurisdiction of US federal law. I do sometimes worry that an overzealous parent could sue WP for exposing minors to sexualy oriented material without even attempting to verify age.

It seems that the best way to keep people out of the mature forum, would be to base it on age in the profile, and deny access to anyone who did not meet the requirements. This would be similar to the members only forum, only a little more complicated. Still basically honor system, but would deter any inadvertant wandering.
I am no programmer. So I must leave this in the hands of the computer savy. Just my thoughts on it.

It seems that nobody minds if someone 15 or over posts in the mature forum. In a more perfect world, minors would not be faced with mature issues, but the world isn't nearly that perfect.

this is the spiel on the "Forums Page", which is what louis means by the honour system. if people don't do it, it is incredibly difficult and time consuming to find out members' ages. apart from anything else, not everyone has divulged their age on the board.

let's face it - there are some extremely "adult" sites on the web, which one may access merely by agreeing to the disclaimer at the beginning. this backs up sean's point. at least the mature forum here isn't going to have extreme content.

i also agree with spacemonkey's "block" suggestion, but alas, i'm no computer whizz either, and so don't know if this can be done.

as for stlf's comments about juridiction - i believe the whole issue is fraught with horrors, as far as the internet is concerned, and no-one seems clear on exactly what's what.

According to the site intro, a person going into the mature forum is supposed to email a site admin with their age. I am sure it does not happen at all. We can code a way to keep people out of there but there are people that do not want to show their age and people that will lie about their age. A computer can only work with the data given to it.

So.. does that mean over 15 is mature, or is it another figure? Isn't it not only the problem of who posts, but who reads... and it is quite hard to tell who's reading something if they don't post anything in reply. And where were we meant to submit our age anyway *does not recall procedure*.

That would take a BUTTLOAD of code to do. I don't think alex has the time to configure all that.

Alex could do it in 15 min whilst also writing an entire doctoral thesis...don't underestimate Alex's power

I hope we get more youth on this site. My son (age 12) posted for a while but gave up on it as it wasn't very active.

Thats what I was hoping. when this started there was alot, but then more adults came, and now it's all adults pretty much. I was wondering if there was a website out there for AS thats more kid and teen orientated?
