It is about a million degrees outside and I KNOW - logically, I know that when I brought my new guiena pig cage in from outside I set the balance off for my air conditioner, thus it is registering 80 instead of 78 and it can't get it down to 78 because it is so hot outside - I can stand by the registers and feel nice cool air - I know it is working just fine - I know when it either storms in a few minutes (hopefully) or gets dark tonight it will get back down to 78 in here - I don't even feel hot . . . yet I am in this hyperarousal state because I'm trying to figure out what to do - if I should call the air conditioner repair people or not . . . not like i have any money anway, seeing as how I fell in love with this guiena pig last week and had to get her and a suitable cage . . .

Granted, I have not had the best week - ending with the fact that I have to put this medication on the skin infection on my face that basically burns the first couple of layers of skin off to kill the infection (not quite painful enough to satisfy my rather intense self destructive streak but painful enough to be really irritating - while I'm sitting her crying over my air conditioner I'm buring the (I can't think of a word that isn't a cuss word to put here) out of this raw skin on my face) . . .

I hate this - you know, I can live with the asocailness and the mind blindiness - but this hyperarousal state is so PAINFUL - I just hate it! And I take tranquilizers everyday - I don't know how I lived through this before!

You have my sincere "I'm there with you". I am also in a similar state and it is stopping my from doing anything I should do that would help stop it. I don't have any answers but I can just say I understand.

I feel like this too. Not sure what to do with myself. I was gonna go out.
But decided to stay in. Just wasting time today not getting anything done for some reason. This happens to me every year around this time.
Eventually fall will come and I will feel great for a while.
I love fall. :)

A new guinea pig is worth not having a good air conditioner. :D I have a air conditioner that I could frost the windows with right now without getting a huge electric bill, but I prefer to use a fan anyway.

Air conditioners are are limited as to how much they can cool a house down.

When we had our own heat wave up here in wisconsin last month, the temp outside was 95 degrees and the coolest our central AC unit could get our house was 75. Upper 90's is about as hot as it gets here in wisconsin. The hottest day I can recall was 97 degrees on july 27, 2002.

If the air coming out of the vents is ice cold, then yours is probably working just fine.

I would blame it on the OCD part of all of us. Today I went to cousins subs for my usual lunch from them. When the cashier put my empty bag on the counter, it was kind of smashed. I couldn't stand to be there and see the bag like that so I had to straighten out all of the creases.

I know just what you mean. There is always something that isn't just right or isn't completed, and, while I can do other things, it is always present in my thoughts.

I noticed what part of the problem may be - being biologically female I have all the classic female issues and was taking Midol today - after reading the bottle I found out that not only is it tylenol and diuretic - but also CAFFEINE - having taken four of those today I think I can safely say that at least contributed to the problem . . .
I still feel exhausted - and then I had to talk to my mother, who has quite a bit of money and I don't and she is currently trying to bribe me with some of it, which I find horribly insulting . . .

Thanks for the guiena pig care site! I had been talking to some of the people on my rat care forums and they said that guienas and rats can be out together but don't really care about each other - well, MY rats thought Callahan was the coolest thing in the world - they would all run to me to get played with and then bounce over to her like 'come on!! ! It is fun out here!! !!' and she didn't get scared - she sort of made rat noises at them . . . so I think they will all get along well . . . if she can be that social after the day she has had I bet she will be great when she calms down some more . . .
