Any ideas to help while travelling
Does anyone have any tips to help deal with travelling? I get so stressed out without my routines and having to be "on" all the time. I also hate flying sooo much.
When I'm overseas I can't seem to calm myself at all, last time I stressed 10kg off so I came back looking like skelator
Any ideas much appreciated.
Can you bring things with you you like doing? Do you like to play videogames? Do you have a hand held gaming system like a PSP or a Nintendo DS? Do you like listening to music? Do you have a portable CD player? You can bring that and listen to CDs. Do you like to read? Bring some books with you. Do you like puzzles like word searches or cross words? Bring those.
Do you like to go out? You can plan on what attractions to see when you travel. There are travel books and brochures in cities when you go to them. They show interesting land marks and all like stores, museums, dining, etc.
Bring with you what you like to do. It always helps me. I bring my PS2 and DVDs and games but I dunno if they work with TVs overseas. I never tried it yet. I have only brought it to Mexico with me and hooked it up down there but they use the same electricity standards as us and have the same region DVDs. They say 1y4 on the back of the DVD cases if I remember right. Y is 'and' for Spanish right?
With me I refuse to stay in the hotel room when I am on trips because I like to explore. That's what vacationing is all about.
If I drove and visited an online friend in another city, I wouldn't want to stay in their house all day, I'd want to go out and have fun. I like exploring.
As a child I used to hate coming back to our hotel room or condo because then I be board because of nothing to do. I did't have all my toys with me was why. Only way of escaping the boredom was sleeping, showering or taking a bath, watching TV in the mornings, having breakfast and bam, we be gone. But now that I am older, I have my games, Playstation 2 and DVDs. I learned to bring entertainment with but when I was little, I didn't have any of that stuff. Only things I had were toys I brought with so I be playing with those instead to escape the boredom.
I think I know why you hate flying, all the limit carry ons there are, the security thing and what you can bring with you and what you can't on carry ons, the limit of check on luggage or they charge you for extra plus if your luggage is over a certain weight, and the fact there isn't enough leg room on the plane and it's real uncomfortable to sleep on so you're all cramped. I know the feeling. As a kid it wasn't an issue because I was smaller and it wasn't a hassle for flying because we didn't have any of this crap but there was still those x rays where you have put your carry ons in but you didn't have to take off your shoes, your coat, accessories and put them in the tub, there were no tubs then. This was all before 9/11 and it changed it all after it happened.
They still opened your bags though if the machine detected something in it but now it's more extreme. I have seen them having to go in my purse and pouring out all the change and looking at it. One time they had to open my purse ( the purse that was shaped like a small backpack) and they had to look at all my game Boy Advance Games including the system.
One time they had to turn on my Dad's laptop just to look at it.
Everyone in my family thought it was a hassle and I was the only one who didn't think it was a big deal. I had nothing to hide so I didn't care. My family has been randomly picked a few times for them to go though our stuff even though the machines didn't detect anything.
Bring compfort items if you can.
Make and keep a secdual so you know where and when things will happen and what to do.
Hmmm.. Originally I assumed by travel you ment you were driving long distance, I had a big list of stuff I do, but your situation is different so I modified and reduced my list accordingly.
Too bad you dont like to fly, I was suggest a window seat so you can look out the whole time.

If you don't like flying, try taking Rescue Remedy in the days before your flight, and then during the flight itself - helps really well. Also, pack a day or so in advance and weigh everything so you know how much it weighs, and pack well so you have big things at the 'bottom' when you carry it and smalls at the top. Wrap breakables. And be prepared by putting anything they might want to inspect where it's in easy reach. Ditto for hand luggage. Get there well in advance.
Also, take music you like. Bring a travel pillow or whatever you need to sleep on the flight, or get a window seat. Take a favourite book to read. And just focus on what you'll be doing!!
Plan everything well in advance - book hotels/motels/hostels weeks early, get them paid, and ask as many questions as you need to know so you know what to expect and it doesn't throw you. Also, take as many detailed maps as you can so you know exactly where to go. Learn all you can about wherever you're going.
If you're going somewhere overseas, maybe try some of their food before you go so when confronted with a menu you know what you like already?
When flying, if you dress nicely and ask for an upgrade on check-in you might get a free one, which can make things easier, or an upgrade for an extra $50 or so if they have seats left. But if you do this, take some comfy travel clothes in your hand luggage to change into if it's a long flight and you're in economy.
Other than that, what Spokane Girl said!!

I take my pillow with me. I like the feel and smell.
The best relaxation on a plane or trip is to take a book on tape or cd and a small cd player with headphones.
