I know the news is fun, exciting, interesting and all that, but to me it seems dull, boring and depressing. Does that make sense to you?

The news? I think I watched it once...I think it was 1975... And once I bought the Sunday paper, to wrap my glasses when moving house.

I don't own a TV set, I don't pay attention to the news, I much prefer my own fantasies than those of others.

Nope.
I got SO excited when it looked liked Gordon Brown was going to call an election in the UK. I LOVE election coverage so much. I like the pie-charts. I like reading who has gone up points and who has gone down in the polls. Actually I can get a bit over-excited about the whole thing.

I find the news very depressing! Local news is okay, but bigger news stations like CNN that will replay a certian tragedy over and over is depressing.

I watch the news now and again but dont find it boring find it interesting normally.

Also, I have to be reminded to throw papers and magazines out. Otherwise I keep them for years thinking I will want to refer back to articles. I have to re-read them all before throwing them away.

I hate news.
Have you ever noticed that there is NEVER happy news?
I used to cause chaos as a child o the way to school in the morning.
My dad would listen to news on the radio, and between the Upsetting content, and the radio static (a huge sensory issue at that age) I couldn't take it. Argument went on for years, and I was ALWAYS stressed getting to school.
And Newspapers? Hehe. Along with the depressing content there is the irritating texture.

So as well as having no interest, to the point of wishing I could remain oblivious, it's not easy to get an easy way of accessing news.

But my dad has advised me to try and keep up to date. And since he is right about a lot of things, I do, once a day, briefly look at www.sky.co.uk for the news. Quickly. It's like my penance for the day.

But why can there never be something happy reported? Why is it always so depressing and stressful?

My mother used to watch the news ALL THE TIME! I HATED IT!

Part of the value of news is that it spreads awareness of what is happening in unaccessible parts of the world - especially natural disasters or political uprisings. Two things...

1. Maybe a lot of people will scan the front page and ignore it, but I donate the odd bit of money, sign tonnes of petitions and write snotty letters to politcians occassionally, (which is great fun btw). So this gives a bit of purpose to the 'depressing' news being reported.

2. When you look at it more deeply, some of what you read has a positive, exciting side to it. For instance, female politicians and womens rights groups in very oppressive middle eastern countries are very interesting to me.

There isn't news anymore, just infotainment and political control of any content that happens to stray into more relevant issues. Too bad. Older people on this forum, at least the ones from the US, will remember how much better the news (and all of TV and radio and print)was before all the media became owned by six corporations.

Funny, I was totally irritated as a boy by radio news. Pops used to listen to radio news in the over breakfast in the morning (prolly RTE radio 1). Regardless of FM or MW broadcast it never seemed to quite reach our house and interference used to drive me totally insane as a child.

Over many years I have developed such a high tolerance for weaker radio signals / static that it usually drives my (NT) friends crazy. Go figure.

Newspaper texture, however, still bothers me. If I touch a newspaper it almost makes me feel like I have sand in my mouth, or I get an almost itchy feeling.

Oh yeah, and keep that squeaky styrofoam stuff away from me as well. It gives me the shivers.

Talking about the news is better than talking about my obsessions, I find.

My 8 year old Aspie LOVES the news. But only news channel 5 because he met the local weatherman Leland Statom at his school.

Get's kinda upset if I turn it off. We watch it while getting ready for school & work.

Last time ive watched the news is years ago... watch CNBC its soo much less depressing not death death war war war... though it is "recessing" stock market recession
