I work managing the photo archive of art and culture in my county. On monday I arrived at work to find several firetrucks outside the building where I work. They are doing some digging outside the building and somehow they managed to cut the main high voltage cable that goes into the building, leading to a massive powersurge(?) that ignited the main fuseboard/box (I'm not too sure of what it's called in english. The fire was put out fast, and it wasn't damage to the building itself, but we were without power for 3 days. They managed to cut the cable because they didn't have a map showing where it was or did any searching first in order to find it! The first and the second day we had meetings to find out what to do. The smell of melted plastic was so strong that I got a sore throath just being in the building. I just got a external hard drive I use so I could work at home. Now the power is back up, but they obviously used a lot of chlorine to wash clean with to get out the burning smell, wich isn't any better.

30 minutes ago, I came home from dinner with my parents. I come home to a strong smell of burnt food from the apartment of an elderly couple a floor down from my apartment. They are both over 80, the husband has Alzheimer's disease and the wife have problems walking. I got worried, knocked on the door and was met by their daughter. Her mother had had an accident with a frying pan.
