Hurricane Katrina and how it effected us...

Hi!This is SpaceCase.We just got power back today.They told us that it was going to be 4-6 weeks!Heh,geuss not...

Well,I am here to talk about the hurricane and what it all did to the area I lived in.I live in the country outside a small town.On Monday,August 29(that was my brother's 14th birthday)the hurricane hit.We lost power by 9:30 a.m.A bunch of trees fell down and our tramopoilne picked up and flew at one of our screen doors.It almsot busted it,but thank God it didn't.

Around 7 p.m. the hurricane stopped.Even though we had no power our phone still worked.My Poppa(grandfather)called us and told us that two trees had fallen on hiks house, broke through the roof,and that thier house was flooded.We had to go help them.

We drove though town and OH,MY GOD!Y'all should have seen the wreckage!My cousins house was nearly under water.So was the park and a couple of stores.Some old buildings had collapsed.Trees and power lines were down EVERYWHERE.Some roads you could not drive on at all.We even hit a power line.But we still managed to make it to my grandparents house.My Nanny(grandmother)was hysterical.She was crying until you heard this lous creaking noise.We all stopped and was really quiet.Then Poppa's like,"The roof is about to collapse!"Then we realized that my uncle who is in a wheel chair was still at the other side of the house!We got him out,though.The roof caved in completely 4 mniutes later.

Our grandparents are staying at my Nanny's sister's house right now.We went for 2 weeks without power and 1 without air conditioning or TV.MY Mammaw had to go to the hospital from dehidration.She's ok now,though.

The following stories are true.

In Sandersville,Mississippi, a brother shot his sister over a bag of ice.

In BaySprings,Mississippi people were going around stealing genertors out of people's houses and taking the gas out of thier cars.This happened to one of my Mom's friends.It also happened to one of my friends.

In Meridian and Jackson,Mississippi 9 people total were killed by trees falling on them.

Yep,it was that bad.-shakes head-But me,my family,and all my friends are okay,although some of my friends had lost loved ones that were near New Orleans.
It was very hard on me these past 2 weeks and I just had to tell y'all about it.Feel free to say anything about Hurricane Katrina.Oh,and also thanks to all the people who replied to Sean's"I heard from SpaceCASE" thread.Bye!

I am so glad to see you back Spacecase.

I know. I think Louis Armstrong's hit which was the theme from "Frank's Place," (Do You Know What It Means To Miss New Orleans?) really meant a lot to some people. They have really been missing New Orleans lately.

However, I had heard that officials in Louisiana had done a terrible job trying to handle the experience. FEMA took eons to work, it took just as long for people to earn money back, and Mayor Nagin is supposedly not a nice guy.

Did anyone hear the sad story regarding the American "Wheel of Fortune?" If not, after scheduling three weeks in New Orleans, they had to leave after two because Mayor Nagin ordered the evacuation of New Orleans. They ended up taking the bus back to Houston. Wasn't that sad?

For those of us who are not in New Orleans, we should be lucky. We have not lost our money, things, or appetite. We should show love for our families moreso than anyone else. Those of us who are religious should pray every day. I hope a hurricane like that one never happens again.

I also hope we are thanking our lucky stars for many things.

Not to sound like someone from England, but "Gad, it must have been hell out there."

my aunt is going to get kicked out of her apartment, they won't give her rent assistance because they are giving preferential treatment to "hurrikane katrina refugees"

they also won't give her any food stamps.

Welcome back, SpaceCase. I kept thinking for awhile there that something awful--awfuler--had happened to you. Glad to hear you're back.

Thank goodness you're back! I'm glad you're okay and you have power now. It's hard to believe it's already been a few weeks since the hurricane hit. Seems like it was only yesterday or a few days ago.

That sounds like a war zone, like Iraq, what you have described, SpaceCase. It is so good you, your family, and your friends are doing all right after this disaster. The worst storm damage I've ever seen in my neighborhood is a few trees down, a power outage, and a little bit of hassle to clean things up. It's nothing at all as bad as what you have described. It's a good thing you don't live in New Orleans! I wonder if it would even be worthwhile to rebuild that city since it is at high risk of both river flooding and hurricane flooding. The Port of Louisiana was one of the busiest in the country (I think after the Port of Long Beach, California; busier than even the Port of New York maybe). Hurricane Katrina's impact on the U.S. economy and politics might be nearly as major as the effects of Tuesday, September 11, 2001.

is revealing on how vulnerable we really are.

I am glad you family is better. and you and your
family came through this allright.

What we got on the other end of it(the safe side)
is looting, and pictures of 1 story house looking
like circut boards when under water.

A brother killed his sister. Must be more than
ice to cause that.
