Have you ever spent several months on end avoiding unnecessary light? For about five months, during my teens, I actually had my monitor on its lowest possible setting most of the time, and I felt highly uncomfortable whenever I had the lighting turned up in the slightest beyond what I needed in order to see the text on the screen. After this period of light-deprivation, though, I noticed a gradual but dramatic decline in my meltdowns, and I found myself outgoing and almost cocksure for a while. Has anyone else ever done this sort of thing? During this Winter, I also tended to leave the heating off, favoring my covers on those occasions that the cold became worrisome.

Am will sit in the dark whenever possible, have only just started using light whilst using computer because using it dark gave migraines.
Have always preferred dark, and do find it more calming than light,am have special blackout blinds over the top of normal long type blinds which are great for better darkness, try to get enough light for health reasons though.
Am don't know whether it's a hypersensitivity sensory thing or maybe even to do with visual perception as this is something am have a major problem with.
Anyway,am recommend blackout blinds, the one am have was on here already when moved here, and it is very thick, definitely recommended for those who have not got them and like dark.

Yes. I ended up working graveyard shift (11pm - 7:00am) for many years as that was the most comfortable time for me to be out and about. Once photogrey glasses became available I immediately got some, and, when combined with some seriously dark polarized sunglasses, I was more comfortable in the daytime going out. I still keep my home darker than most do because bright light continues to hurt my eyes, and those of my daughter. When I'm not having to deal with that I'm naturally less stressed.

It depends how I'm feeling. Sometimes I love darkness and just want to hide away in it as I find it very relaxing. When I want lightness, I always want natural lightness (I'm not fond of artificial light that much, unless it's dim or a lava lamp or something like that, then it's soothing). I love it when the sun's out, that is my favourite kind of light.

I love the dark. I wish I could eliminate 98% of the light that I'm exposed to during the day.

I've often had this fantasy of having a finished basement with no windows and putting something on the door threshold so light won't come through and just be there like that. Or maybe to a lesser extent, do the same thing with the doors and put black foam-core boards up on the windows with black electrical tape to mask any light getting through.

All that would be on is a tv or something.

Growing up I wanted to live in a cave. Seriously. I watched a few cavemen movies and wondered what it must be like to live, sleep and eat on rocks - and especially - dark rocks. :D

Nowadays that desire comes second to wanting to live in a post-apocalyptic city. Wait, actually third. No...fourth.

Caves and post apocalyptic cities fascinate me.

My grandma has always nagged me about how "you'll strain your eyes!" when I sit alone in the dark either drawing, reading, eating, or playing videogames. I often like to keep the lights off, or at least on dim if I need some light to do something I want to do.

Living in a post apocalyptic city for me would be heaven on Earth. Sadly, the best we have is either a ghost town out west(too much historic value and not 'modern' enough to have the aesthetics and 'feel') or New Orleans(too many people to have the 'feel').

With a little luck, this looming energy crisis will make Las Vegas a 'ghost town' within 20 years time and I might be able to live the dream... One can dream.

I won't go outside during the day unless there's a healthy layer of gray clouds in the sky. It goes back to my childhood when I was forced to work out in the sweltering sun all summer.... now I refuse to have any part in anything even remotely resembling activity in sunlight.

The dark... I love it.

I spent an entire summer in my room, i barely came out every other day and at night to bathe. mom brought me my dinner and all my lights where out. I didnt want to wear but selective items, either.
