What are pragmatics and semantics of language?

What does this mean in layman's terms? An article I'm reading says "Those with Asperger's syndrome will display impairments in the pragmatics and semantics of language, despite having adequate receptive and expressive language." I have no idea what they're saying.

Awesome question, I would love to know the answer as well.

pragmatics:
The rules that govern and describe how language is used in different contexts and environments. For example, the words and tone of voice will be more formal when talking with the principal and may be very casual and include slang when talking with other children. Social rules are very subtle. Some children have difficulty figuring these rules out and applying them appropriately. As a result, they may be identified as having inappropriate or poor behaviour.

The aspect of speech having to do with rules of social interaction such as turn taking and staying on topic, as well as other socially acceptable interaction rules.


semantics:
The "meaning" of words, those connotations that you might look up in a dictionary (as opposed to syntax).

The use of language in meaningful referents, both in word and sentence structures.

The study of the meaning of language, including meaning at the word, sentence, and conversational level.

I always have the urge to nitpick people's semantics. I only actually do it with my brother though. Inexact word usage is often confusing as it leaves the sentence up to interpretation and I have trouble figuring out which meaning was actually meant. Even when the exact definition doesn't really make a difference it still bugs me.
I understand the idea of pragmatics, but I don't think I have ever used it. I pretty much talk the same way to everyone.

I am strong in semantics and weak in pragmatics.

I am obsessive when it comes to correct word usage. I don't understand common slang at all, and don't really want to. My ability to use language well is really the only thing that makes me feel I'm not completely stupid at times.
