I have a crazy theory about autism and vaccinations:

That it has nothing to do with the biochemical aspect of the vaccine that allegedly induces autism, but the sheer pre-verbal shock of the spectacle that causes a child who already has the autistic genes to fall into that "black hole" that is autism. Bear with me... Shell-shocked adults or adults dealing with post-traumtic stress syndrome regress into a sort of "autistic state", some are able to snap out of it but others find themselves "stuck". Now imagine a child experiencing a kind of shell-shock or post-traumatic syndrome, except the child is at a pre-verbal age when this happens. Now some auties and aspies find physical contact, even a mere hug, physiologically unbearable...imagine a needle penetrating the skin for the first time by a complete stranger. To add to the pain, your parents are not doing anything, not stopping this stranger. You are pre-verbal and therefore have no way to put this into any kind of context or narrative that makes sense. Your very unprepared, young brain will process this with not the higher brain functions that involve language and years of coping mechanisms for you are not even at the stage yet, no you will process this with the limbic system, the amygdala, the preverbal part of the brain. Now the non-autistic child, will probably psychologically recover faster from this incident with no long-lasting effects. But the child with autism genes may find him/herself unable to psychologically recover from this pre-verbal trauma as fast and perhaps may drift into more severe autistic traits (the preverbal brain already primed for autistic traits may have no way of handling this incident and basically discombobulates cognitively).

So basically, I'm suggesting that it may not be because of the biochemical interaction with the preservative or whatever in the vaccine itself, but the very vaccination incident that "induces" autism and its cousin asperger's. That vaccinations don't cause autism, they just make it more severe. If the child has autism genes, s/he will fall within the spectrum, vaccine or not.

I know for me, when I'm faced with a psychological crisis, I really regress autistically. But since I am post-verbal, I can pull myself out of it by using higher-brain functions like language and cognitive strategies and whatnot. Even that's not enough sometimes, though.

Once again, a crazy theory.

this would have to be compared to other traumatic events

also have to take into consideration those autistics that are on the hyposensative end of the SPD spectrum that wouldnt even notice the prick of the needle

hmm, interesting.
The post traumatic stress does ring a bell. My son did have his share of traumatic events in his early life, as well as me being under a lot of stress during and after my pregnancy.

As far as the shots, he is hypo sensitive to touch. He cried more about the doctor walking into the room and making noises than he did about the shots themselves, but we also didn't notice any regressions after the shots.
