Do people take what you say to extreme?
This seems to happen to me a lot and I think I am getting sick of it.
I say something and people take it the hard way. Here are a few examples.
Today at work, this employee comes down to the office to drop off the dirty cups and he has a bunch of Sunday papers in his cart for him to recycle and he tells me I better gather them all up at noon because we are going to be very busy. I told him I like to leave them out in the halls and I pick them up before my shift ends just so the guests have a chance to get them but lot of them dissapear during the day anyway because either I am picking them up as the rooms are being cleaned or the guests take them. But he told me I still better pick them up because it's a busy day and it's better to do it now and I say I have been doing good lately so far and bam he holds out his arms and says "I wasn't criticizing you, I was just telling you."
Also with my first boyfriend, he was staying at my house because every time I have a few days off in a row, I go over his place and pick him up and bring him back to my place because being at his house sucked because his room is tiny and it's a mess and hard to get around in so my house was better. Well one morning I tell him he can have some cereal and thinking he us the same bowls I use but instead I was socked when I saw he had poured half of my cereal in the food storage container and I got upset because it was a lot of food and he didn't use a little bowl like I do. After that he was afraid of serving himself like ice cream or cereal after I had told him what bowls to use to eat out of but he still didn't want to serve himself because he didn't want me to get mad at him so I do it for him and give it to him.
Few weeks ago, I find out my boyfriend had been eating the same cereal for days and I hadn't had the chance to have it yet so afraid he was going to eat it up before me, I get upset and I tell him he needs to make sure I had some too. Instead he says " I won't eat anymore of your cereal."
Heck back when I lived with my parents, I had to take food from the cupboards and hide it in my room so I'd have the chance to have it or it get all eaten up by my brothers and by their friends. There was no way I am going to take all the food I want to try and eat it all in one day. It's not healthy, I'll gain weight. I certinally don't want to do that in my relationship.
I talked about this with my shrink using the cereal example and she said people take what I say to an extreme. But unfortunitly we were about out of time so I couldn't ask why they do it.
This happens to me as well.
An example:
Recently, as I was discussing my admiration/obsession with pregnant women with my mother, she said she was afraid I would attempt to get pregnant myself. I mean, I thought she'd know me well enough to realize that I understand the consequences of real-life pregnancy and would never attempt it. Besides, I only like admiring other women who are pregnant.
Yes I have ppl who take what I say literally. My mom got mad at me for saying, "This place is a mess!"
I really didn't mean to sound like that, it just came out that way.
I also have ppl get mad if I'm just joking around with them. Strange thing is, I try to choose my words carefully so as not to cause a conflict. Now I feel like I have to keep my mouth shut, but for some reason I can't. When I see or make an observation, it just goes through my head and out my mouth or my fingers. I feel like I can't control it.
You know what's real strange is I'll do the same exact thing like the ones who take offense. I can't always tell if it's a ha ha joke or a ho ho joke. I really have trouble reading between the lines sometimes. ![]()

I tend to offend people too on accident. Like yesterday I made a comment about someone's body on another forum after I saw a picture of her. She looked very thin, so thin it looked like she had a girl's body so that was what i suggested and said the picture could be older and I mentioned some people don't get women bodies till they are adults, like my aunt didn't get hers till she was in her 20's and she was lucky she could only have one child because she couldn't have anymore.
The lady was offended and told me both her pictures were taken the same year. The first pic, she looked bigger, same as her breasts but the second picture looked like they were in development.
Then I said maybe it was the way she was standing that made it look like that and said I hope I didn't offend her and she told me I did so I apologized for it. I hope she still isn't mad at me and hates me for it. Oh well her problem then if she is and does. \
Sometimes people get mad at me about questions I ask and I mean no harm and am not doing it to offend or anything. They're just curious questions because I am confused about something so I want an explanation before I even assume anything. I think it's their problem if they get mad about it just assume they're jerks. Don't care if my opinion is wrong or not, that's what they get for not answering me or for being mean to me.
