What is this condition, anyone know?
If not knowing what the consequence will be for your actions isn't part of AS, what condition is it part of? Anyone know?
I had this problem a lot when I was a kid so I lie about it by blaming it on my brothers but my mother knew it was me most of the time.
I do something and then later on I hear my mother screaming so I knew "uh oh trouble" and I say I didn't do it and try and pass it onto my brothers. But luckily I have gotten better but unfortunately I think I am still in danger of myself because I sure hope I won't ever get in trouble with the law. I remember the time I wanted to have sex with Spokane but I didn't know it get me arrested and I'd have to possibly register as a sex offender. If it weren't for me making a post about it on here, my two online friends would have never told me and I would have never known. What if I really did do it, and I got myself arrested? I could have ended up on TV and in news articles on the internet and they might have mentioned my AS and bam I'd be shunned in the whole community.
Isn't that a regular part of growing up for people? Younger people aren't as aware of consequences as older people... There IS some condition though that adults have where they aren't able to understand consequences very well... ADHD actually has some difficulty with that.. Doesn't AS also?
Some personality disorders it seems like have that as a symptom.. can't remember which ones honestly though... maybe, possibly Borderline personality disorder? Probably someone in the manic state of Bipolar? Like going on a shopping spree, but not thinking about the charge card bills afterwards.
I think there's a difference between knowing if there will be consequences to an action, and knowing what the consequences will be. The first is a sort of dissociation that most people eventually grow out of, but if not, becomes a dissociative disorder. I haven't been able to find any specific information about it as its own disorder (which is not to say it isn't) but it is definitely a symptom of some of the more notorious psych disorders.
As for knowing what the consequences of an action will be, most times common sense will help with that, but even the best of us are clueless sometimes.
I don't know. There is a thread about it in The Haven called Problem and there was a thread on AFF by parent whose son got in trouble for burning tree stumps in the woods and the mother thinks he shouldn't have been tried as an adult for it because he didn't even know it was wrong at the time and he was 17 when he did it. Everyone was saying in those threads we do understand our actions and consequences and it freaks me out. That means I have something else too not just autism spectrum.

Nope, my mother never drank so I don't have FAS. She stayed away from caffeine too and she ate healthy thinking she have a perfect baby meaning no child with a disability but it happened anyway. She used to think she did something wrong when she was pregnant because I kept getting ear infections and the fact I kept getting sick.
I'd say it's part ASD that you do not know if certain actions of yours will lead to consequences.
To grasp the consequences of certain actions in one's culture is part of cultural learning. Usually, people have no trouble picking onto these social/cultural rules and thus, are likely to follow them.
If you don't know or don't understand, then you obviously cannot follow that rule.
People with ASDs can have a lot of trouble to get even the most obvious cultural 'rules'. What if you don't know that, because you did not pick this rule up in social situations before?
How should you possibly know?

I'm not a neuroscientist but I did work closely with a lot of them for years. As a result I did learn about a lot of conditions where consideration or feeling for consequences is somewhat tenuous. The most extreme is when there is actually physical damage in the lower mid frontal lobe due to trauma, stroke, cancer or surgery. These people may know the consequences conceptually or intellectually but have almost no chance of actually acting in accordance with their knowledge. They express that all the facts don't seem to add up to a clear indication of what to do (even when it is unequivocally clear to everyone else). Anthony Damasio has written some books on this with some nice interviews, case histories and quotes. I think he also talks about situations where the problem is not with physical damage but with other imbalance. The only title of his I remember is DesCarte's Error. I'm sure Amazon could point you in the right direction
You describe something that sounds far less pronounced than what I remember from reading these books. However, your strong reaction to what you see as your situation suggests to me that it might be worth looking into.
Hope this is some help
Autistic people can have trouble learning things like that.
What other people are getting confused is this: Autistic people care about doing the right thing. We just can have trouble discerning that something is right or wrong if we don't understand the effects on people for some reason related to being autistic.
Whereas, sociopaths don't care, but can usually distinguish them with no trouble.
I think in some people's haste to avoid getting labeled as not caring, they've acted like we can all figure things out at the same rate, and that's just not accurate.

Yes, frontal lobe damage (external injury, lesions, organic conditions that cause continuing loss of function such as growth of tumor). Damasio's books on it are "Descartes' Error" and "The Feeling of What Happens" (his other book, "Looking for Spinoza", doesn't go there so much).
Have no reason to believe I've damage in my frontal lobes, am dx'd with Asperger's, and there are many areas (not all, by far) in which I cannot project the future consequences (either because it doesn't occur to me to do so or I can't, even if I know I ought to).
If one hasn't been taught/told a rule, how is one supposed to pick it up ? Some things seem obviously "bad"-other taboos or prohibitions strike me as arbitrary, relative, and counterintuitive-thus those are the ones that I'm less aware of (without specific instruction/education on the subject & where legal lines are drawn), since they don't make simple/easy "sense".
