A question about the rocking stim

Does rocking occur for any other condition? I don't rock, but I've seen it in two people, my mother who was dxed with schizophrenia, and a former roommate, who's dx I don't know, but I have noticed AS and possibly schiz. traits in.

I knew a kid a few years back with Down Syndrome who rocked a lot. I don't know if it was because of the DS or something else though.

It can. Not just limiting to neurological or other conditions of the mind as far as I know.

I'm also thinking of how some blind people do some sorts of self-stimulation that people who have functional eyes don't do.

I used to work with teenagers who had a plethora of diagnosis and this was very common behavior for them. Even NT's who are adiquitly stressed...we called it "self soothing", just like a mother rocks her baby to calm it down. Have you ever wathced people in some countries at a funeral or after a natural disaster? I think the differencs is that certain DXes cause people to feel stress in situations that don't stress NT's.
