Have been posting on here for months and have always been curious about what some of the emoticons mean. So, if someone would enlighten me on the meaning of :o 8O :? :P in particular, I'd have my mystery solved.

If you hover your cursor over each emoticon, a little block will appear that names each emoticon. (If you have Windows Xp or later, or Mac OS 9 or later, that is...)

I had the same problem as you and I still get offended some times when I see the more negative oes in relation to something I have written...especially when I think they are mad when they are only confused(I have the same problem with real faces as far as those two emotions go :? :x ...they both looked pissed off to me. I actually think that once you learn them they can help clarify what your "tone" is when you write...something I could use in my RL encounters.

I learned them as the above poster stated...just put the area over one for a bit and it will say what it is suposed to be. :)

I have always thought it so funny that people known for not understanding facial expressions use emoticons!
I ALWAYS have to hover my mouse over them to find out what they mean!

except this one  I have seen it all my life as reaction to me.
I know EXACTLY what it means!
