I was reading the cave bear thread and there was a discussion on whether or not mating between modern humans and Neandertals would be beastiality. I thought that was interesting so I decided to create this thread here on the subject. Would mating with a Neanderthal be considered beastiality? Our two species are very similar in intelligence, appearance, and genetic makeup... and it is very possible viable offspring could result from such matings. So would that be beastiality? :?

I would also like to add a new dimension to the discussion by bringing up the idea of extra-terrestrials. Do you guys think hundreds of years from now it will be like Star Trek where we live side by side with different alien species? Would mating with a Klingon be considered Beastiality?

Would you have sex with Big Foot?! I wouldn't be willing to. I don't think any human would find a Neanderthat attractive enough to "get it up", if you get what I'm saying. And what kind of woman would have sex with a big, furry, pile of scary. It would be beastiality, not that there's anything wrong with that. I don't think offspring would be possible, though.

Mating with Klingons is wrong unless I am made Lord of the Universe.

Well, in teh Star Trek universe (and most science fiction) most sentient aliens are humanoid, or occaisionally furries (anthropomorphic animals), and the ways in which they diverge from the human norm are often exotically beautiful. But real-world aliens would be so alien to humans (and terragens life in general) that it is astronomically unlikely for them to be compatible.

That's an interesting question. I don't think it would be beastiality. Neanthals were human beings.

Yes, beastiality is defined as "sex with an animal" and Neanderthals are not animals. And it's believed to have occured in areas where homosapiens and neanderthals came into contact. This probably resulted offspring.

Dating sentient species is just like interracial dating. Is it 'strange' for a black person to marry a white person? No, that's how Halle Berry came along. The thing that differentiates 'normal' sex from bestiality, pedophilia etc. is the matter of consent. Animals, being non-sapient, can't consent to sexual activity with a human in a logical, human sense, because they have sex based on instincts. However, somebody who can think on a human level can consent to sex.

8O The first thing that the above post brings to mind is aliens eating fat people. Is this what you mean? The only sci-fi story I can think of where anyhting remotely like that happens is H.G. Wells' War of the Worlds.

I saw a recently made dcumentary on Neandrathals where they did a DNA comoparison and discovered that it is highly improbable that there was any mating between the two species. Through various archeological digs they also concluded that the Neandrathals died out either shortly before or shortly after modern humans began inhabiting the area. What I found most interesting is the map of where modern humans first originated and the pattern in which they spread. On this map it shows two isolated points in Africa, but the vast majority of archeological evidence points to modern humans first originating in modern day eastern Turkey. From this single point, other sites emerge nearby and then form three branches. One going South and then West through the Middle east into Africa, one going Northeast into Asia, and one going Northwest into Europe, where most of the Neandrathas sem to have been, and inhabited areas on top of the sediment covering the Neandrathal settlements.

I don't think it is appropriate to make reference to "fat" people like this Malcolm.

Interesting discussion I found on mtDNA, neanderthal/sapiens interbreeding etc:

Too tired to say much more about it.

I still believe the theory that Big Foot is a Neanderthal, so I'll repeat my question. Would you have sex with Big Foot?

I don't know enough about Star Trek to say anything about interspecies with aliens. :?
