Are tragic events such as car crash (see Andy Warhol's Green Car Crash Ten Times for evidence) now reduced to an image on a screen in today's society? Is there a vulture culture of onlookers who flock to the scene of an accident due to blurring of lines between news story and fame?

not meaning to make will freund sound like a prophet but, he once started a thread called "everyone here seems to be a vulture" and now we have over four thousand of them on-line all at the same time.

I applaud the people who came here to learn more about Asperger's and other PDDs. Hopefully they will have learned something today.

I welcome the lurkers/new members who have a PDD or know someone who does. I'm glad they found us but infinitely sad over the way we came to their attention.

But, to stay on topic, yes msj, I think the lines have blurred to far. We have people who are famous for being famous, no other reason.

I think its good that people who need a place like wrongplanet found it too.
it just worries me sometimes how society in general is dictated by mob movements. i suppose that's the psychohistorian in me though.

I voted "yes." Vulturism is one of the things I hate most about the world.

Not to sound too pessimistic, but people have ALWAYS been attracted to "bad news". The Unfortunate is always more interesting. But I still voted "no" but not for my fifteen minutes of fame. I just don't think it's any different these days as it has always been. However, the media just makes this natural tendency only a click away.

But people have always been vultures, gossiping, cheering, and drooling over a "juicy story". We just have the television, computer, phone, etc., to facilitate our vulturism and take it city, country, or even world wide within minutes.

All people do is gawk.

In an important situation, you'd be surpried how few people actually come to help.

This isn't a very good example, but when I was 5 I hurt myself in the playground, and kids came from all over the place just to look, and no-one helped.
