I have no idea if this is related to AS or not. When I first wake up in the morning, I hate to have to form words. It is fine if somebody talks to me, but I feel miserable if it requires a response. It feels like that part of my brain that forms words is still asleep, and it wants just a few more minutes. Sometimes, in this situation, I will whisper. But whispering feels only slightly better than speaking, not much. Then everything is back to normal after I have been awake from like 5-30 minutes. I have seen many people that don't like to talk after waking up, but they seem to be more generally tired. I will feel alert, and nod or shake my head in response to yes or know questions, and even walk over to the person's line of sight if they don't see my response.

I've heard that from other people. For me it's the opposite though - my communication is the very best first thing in the morning. I talk more than I do the rest of the day, everything I want to say comes out so easily. As the day goes on it goes downhill and by the end of the day I'm almost mute. My thoughts are still the same as they were in the morning and I'd still like to be communicating the same way, but the words aren't there anymore.

Same for me, only I prefer to grunt! If a grunt won't do then I just ignore the person (usually my long suffering OH) and carry on doing what I'm doing. :)

Once I've had some breakfast and a shower, speaking starts to come "online", but it's a slow process!

Talk to me after I've had my 2 big mugs of coffee

I may be up at 7 but I don't wake up until around 11 or so.

I don't know what to say after I first wake up. In other words, I have that same problem.

I offend sleep thro my alarm so if a friend stays over and they wake me up and all of them have learned to have a coffee with them and keep bugging me till I respond with words because if not I have not woken up yet. In reality its cos once I have been awake long unf for my word centre of my brain to catch up I cant go back to sleep but that was a long winded way of saying yes I get that

From late childhood I always tried to get up and have breakfast before everyone else as a way, I think, of getting myself organised and ready to face the NT world. I just do not want to talk in the early morning until I have got moving and done some chores or been for a walk or a bike ride. To have to talk before I been active takes a great effort and I cannot pretend that I am especially gracious when I am trapped by chatty people early. Even when I am out walking I hide from or avoid people I see coming so as to avoid having to speak to them.

Jim Crawford.

at first i thought you were talking about dreams.

sometimes i will be talking in my sleep and wake up while still talking. and sometimes, even though realizing i am now woken up, i continue my sentence. it feels like i'm not satisfied unless i finish what i started. i get a big angry at myself for waking up before i could finish my dream lol.
