Fortunately I haven't done it on the air, but yeah, it happens. Someone once sent me an e-mail he signed "All the best," and I misread it as "All the beers." Shows you where my mind was! :P

Speaking of beers, cheers to my 300th post!

I'll sometimes be reading something and I'll read a passage a few times cos it doesn't make sense. Then I'll read it again and it makes perfect sense because I read one of the words correctly this time.
The weird part is the previous few times the word I read wrong LOOKED exactly like what I read it as at the time...

Idon't think that's only as AS thing, I think it's just inattention.

Having said that, I do it constantly, though I can't think of any particularly funny examples right now.

"parts" looks like "pants" when it's written in joined up writing.

I mistype and mistate things a lot.
Very often I'll omit crucial words like "not" and I can never seem to call my AP Environmental science course by the correct name.

I don't know about that... certainly it's not only aspies who misread, but for me the misreading is related to language difficulties... I think it is possible to say that language difficulties are part of autism (certainly part of my autism). because of that difficulty, I'd have to pay far more attention than an NT would in order to read text - I don't think it's fair to call it 'inattention' when I'm actually trying harder! :x

 hehehee... I remember once seeing a headline which I thought said "FRANK BRUNO PLAYS IN PANTS" - it was really PANTO  I misread "TO LET" as "TOILET", and public as pubic

I always read ghotistix as ghostix! Oh, and nowadays I usually say perSEVerance instead of perseVERance, thanks to the idea of perseverating!

I misread stuff a lot! Can't think of anything just now - though the ghostix thing (what is it actually?) I'd never realised until paying attention on this thread ...
