I just found a button that allows you to create your own network.
What do you think about creating one "Autistic Individuals Speaking for Autism"

Or should I name it:
What Autism Really is Like from those that Are Autistic

Any takers on the idea?

I'd like to know so I can pick a good name while it's still fresh... I'm going to see if "autism" is free to use for the actual Web Addres.

I'd like to do it overnight if possible.

Autistic Pride!

(yes make that the title-including the exclamation point)

or 'Neurodiversity' or 'Neurodiverse of the World Unite!'

Simple clueless newbie question: What is AS? (I thought "AS" represented either "Asperger's syndrome" or "Autism Spectrum.")

Thanks!

AS In this case was my abbriviation for Autism Speaks.

I want a title that will encourage all people to look into. It's my desire to make a non inflamitory discussion group that people can talk positivly about autism. I want to draw in some of those parents and also general strangers to see the discussion and see a more positive outlook on autism.

I also want to know if I create this group that there will be people who will positive messages and be as respectful as possible.

I'm not happy that there are no groups out there for autistic people:

I want to see if there is a way to make one. I have no idea if it will work but I thought it may be worth a try.

Edit: I did find a group, now that I was finally able to log in...

Odd that you have to register to see it...can't just view it as a guest....

Duh! Thanks. I wonder how many times I have missed that abbreviation for Autism Speaks here. Oh well, I'll keep it in mind as a possibility for the future and look to the context to figure out which meaning is meant.

That sounds like a noble objective. I hope it will go well.

I am interested in it. If I post, it will be positive and respectful. I am still so new to all of this; I have a lot to learn.

If I can find a way to get it right on the autism speaks web page, then I'll do it...
I want it open for parents and teachers too... I don't like how they have the groups all segregated.

Here is my discussion btw:

I think that's a very good idea. People need to know that AS is not a disease and that we're not a bunch of useless eaters who ruin the lives of our families.

Sounds like a good idea, but to avoid conflict with the mods I would go for a tamer name. Something simple like "Autistics." They have "Single Mothers" "Educators" etc, so just add "Autistics" with no obvious confrontational tone.

There is another one around

http://www.weareautism.org But the more the better, there is still too much lack of awareness out there about ASD.
