A local woman won $35million in the lottery on Friday. There's no reason to think she has Asperger's but it set me wondering how I would deal with $35million. I didn't get very far before seeing expensive items in terms of how many African villages the money would feed.

Is this kind of thinking aspergian? Do we have a tendency to any given set of values, and if so, what?

I'd fund various *fringe* groups with the money and/or arm yourself....or help organize/set them up...though as they're probably decentralized it might be hard...unless it's a local cell or something...

and of course stuff like new comps, an apartment, and the like :P

EDIT: and stuff like socialist parties and whatnow

I wouldn't bother with Africa, I would prefer to help out people here in Canada first, helping some of the homeless out, maybe set up a scholarship for some Metis kids for university, I would also travel around the country, visit family, maybe start a company for aspies needing to get some sort of employment.

If I won that much, I would put it in savings, buy a house, a hybrid, and maybe quit my job. I would probably use the money to go to school since I can afford to live and not work.

I would also donate too.

I would establish a free retreat/resort/sanctuary especially for autistic people and their families, so they could have a proper holiday without the stress of having to deal with ignorant NTs  .

I would buy a new home, and equip it with the most recent advanced tech.

I would also buy 2 or 3 companies to recycle the money to make sure I won't be broke again

and in the end I'll donate 30% of my profits to the poor and the needy

or I would just donate it all if people started to hate me and hold grudges for me because of it

I would begin construction of a non grid locked self sustaining community. As Nagy stated, it would be equipped with the most modern developments in technology. All excess would be utilized to grow the community over time so as to be all inclusive. I would hope to invest also in transhumanist pursuits such as life extension and simulated reality systems. All industrial processes would be automated so as to free up human processes for intellectual and recreational activities. Though these processes would be supervised by human operators. I would also pursue marijuana decriminalization.

Would also fund a couple of retreats, adult/children with neurological conditions, not just ASD, 'kids in the syndrome.' Probably build a sensory club with sound proof rooms, various colours, textures and styles of decor/music, paints, plants and pools. Ah the possibilities.

i would donate some of it and have fun with the rest.
people would suck up to me if i was wealthy i am sure, because there are people like that that suck up to the wealthy and bag them out if the rich do not give them money.

as for which charities to donate too,
schools for autistic children, retreats for their families, charities for the poor and the needy

what else
scholarships for artists, scientists??a lot could be done with that much monies.

i would probably invest half of it in something like sony then half of the half left would go on a slot machine and everything i ever wanted and then half of the half of the half left would go to my family then the rest would be put into savings.

I would buy a Honda Ridgeline, a home theater system, a house in some city I haven't made a final decision about, etc.

I would still have tons of money left over, though.

I think we are more likely to empathize with the disadvantaged because we ourselves are more often disadvantaged; but that has nothing to do with neurology. It happens to anyone who is treated unfairly and doesn't become too bitter to care about life.

If I had $35 million, I bet that would send quite a few autistic people to college. I know it's kind of a luxury compared to things like job training or speech therapy; but I've had so much frustration trying to get through college, and being an Aspie makes it harder. There simply aren't any scholarships for autistics out there... or, none that I've found, anyway... and there are hundreds available for people with just about any physical disability you can name. If you're deaf and you want a college degree, there are plenty of people willing to help you out for an essay and a good GPA--not so much for autism.

I'd pay for my own college education first, though. The sooner you pay off the loans, the better. Those banks are vicious.

Most would be selfish with the money, honestly, it was my instinct as well. But your heart is in the right place, thinking about the woes of the world first, there are surely plenty.
The problem is one of corruption...making sure the food/money would actually reach the people in need.

I think I would use the money to help people who are disadvantaged for whatever reason, and fund a sociological study into why people are so apathetic, uncaring, have little sympathy. What makes them this way?
I already have my suspicions, but I want a study to back them up.

I'd donate like $34 million and keep one, invest it for retirement and that's all, continue working as usual :)

That's a great idea, aspie scholarships!

If I had 35 million. I bet I would not get anymore "lets just be friends" lines from women.
