Simple question:

What should we call it when an Aspie tells someone or some group who didn't know beforehand that he or she has Asperger's Syndrome? :?:

"Coming out of the Closet" has already been used by gays and lesbians. Besides, it would imply that an Aspie is capable of getting out of the metaphorical closet in which he or she is locked, which is not really true...

In some cases, "Putting them on Blast" might be appropriate... :D

I'm not sure, but we need to come up with some good catchphrase! Look what it did for the gay/lesbian movement. Help!

Couldn't the same be said for gays?

I think "coming out of the closet" is a generic enough term to be used. I've always considered it to mean admitting to something that you feel may have some stigma attached. Being gay is a common example of this but not the only one.

How did "coming out of the clauset" become a meaning for announcing homosexuality?
A clauset is a piece of furniture, and homosexuality is part of a living being, not a good match is it?

Have no idea on the original topic.
How would it be used? do people say it to other people that they have told them they have AS?
I think it might add more to the negative view of AS that some people have.

Maybe I'm reading too much into it, but I always thought it was based upon that silly game teenagers play where two go into the closet and "make out." Coming out of the closet would reveal that the two who were in there were of the same sex.

A good question to consider. I can't imagine telling anyone anything personal about myself so I can't imagine needing a name for it. How about: Just visiting. (?)

Eh, we've already stolen the rainbow, why not take the closet too?

I dunno, do we really need something for this? I'd just say you came out and told people, were upfront, whatever. *shrugs* I guess for me it's usually less of a 'sit down, I need to tell you something' affair and more that people just get to know that I'm odd and hear me talking about Aspieness and the like...

Witches call it coming out of the broom closet.

And Communists call it coming out of the linen closet. Okay, I just made that one up.
