A (Brief?) Lil' Questionaire
This list is a weeeee long so bear with me. Make note of problems or weaknesses you have with the things on the list: Yes, No, Sometimes, I don't know, N/A, etc. I'm jes' wanting to do a brief little study and see if these are applicable to Autties.

1: Problems with speed and clarity of speech. Often my words run together. Pronunciation decreases with speed, but speaking slowly, is perfect.
5-11: Yes.
12: In part, yes. I have problems with sentences, but not with single words.
14: Pragmatic language? I don't speak with social intent, yet the lack thereof has never really hurt me socially. I'm a hanger-on socialiser. The one who just stands to the side and listens to everyone else.
16: You might call it difficulty in initiating conversation, since I don't bother. But from my point of view, it's just not something I much care to do. Verbal thought expression is pretty bad. Word encapsulation is problematic; I often rely on the other person to supply the correct words.
There's 2 different problems here. Questions like you find in English essays are a good example of where I can't possibly think of answers, let alone try to express them. Like if you don't know what a dog is, you can't explain it to someone. Questions like "How...?" or "Explain how..." questions are where thought expression problems come into play. You know the answer, but you can't word it.
17: Always. It's a lot easier to say "never mind" than attempt to explain.
19: Are you talking with regards to handwriting? Handwriting, yes, pretty much everything except the spelling is awful. On the computer, there are no problems except the language expression.
20: Yes. I seem to always produce too much saliva.
1. Yes, mainly because my hearing is poor.
2. Yes
3. No
4. A bit too pedantic sometimes
5 - 7 Spoken: yes, written: no.
8. Need "props" do be able to do it. I can walk you through it if I have the tools / equipment being used. Otherwise, I couldn't tell you how to do it.
9 - 12 Spoken: yes, written: no.
13. No
14. Oh! Yes! Big time.
15. Absolutely! I don't "get it" unless it is explained to me directly and for what it is.
16. I don't even bother with that. I just have myself a nice, big cup of Shut The **** Up
17. I just end up saying: "never mind".
18. Reading: no problem. Writing: I'm TNT, dynamite... (that AC-DC song)
19. I write much better than I speak.
20. Dysphasia? Nah.
21. In an argument I end it by saying: "call it whatever you want to call it. I won't argue". OTOH, I can show by example when the conditions are right ![]()

yeah, mostly loudness (too quiet), often its either the vowels or consanants that travel but not both, and then there's the fact that I mash my words in the morning like a little kid if I don't get some stimulants in me....
2. Problems with the strength and coordination of the speech muscles
I do have coordination problems there but also, oddly enough, it's word retrieval as well. I can know a song real well, know the words, but if it's fast paced the result is often pretty pathetic (can't keep up, grab the wrong words still, etc.)
Not too bad in that department...
Fine there...
Not sure I quite understand the question...
If they get that complex, I'll try and get a pen and paper. Usually I'm pretty good at sorting out the most salient points though.
Not sure...
No problems there...
Usually I'm pretty good with that and throw in some of the underlying niuances.
Depends. When I read some of my own posts, there's just something about the language structure. It's like some people's writing is real easy to read because it follows a certain commonly-established script, mine I have a hard time predicting the next word and if I realize half the time that people could be thrown if they skim over much of anything. I don't know why that is unless my language centers are up against a mental block of some kind...
Yeah, it happens often enough...
Fine there...
Depends if I'm overloaded or if I'm having one of those low-dopamine weather-change type days.
Well, I've noticed I tend to only click well with people who have a bit of ADD, ADHD, or OCD. I think part of that is because my small-talk and even my humor tend to be a little too dry for people who aren't at least sharing a portion of knowing where I'm comming from.
Nah, fine there...
Yeah, my topic-starters often times don't get much reciprocation out of other people. Again, it's that plain-vanilla generalized stuff and often enough people end up giving me that look like "why are you wasting my time?"
Usually it's a matter of mishearing but when it isn't, I guess I only have problems when what I'm trying to explain is real involved as it is.
18. Reading and writing of letters, words, phrases, sentences, and paragraphs.
Don't know how I'd describe em, nothing routine or specific, but yeah.
Never had that...
Outside of typing I really couldn't say I know much about that. As it is, pretty much any of that I'm ok with.

Just to preclude this, I'm not officially diagnosed. You probably know already, anyway.
1. Problems with fluency, vocal quality and loudness, and the pronunciation and clarity of speech: Yes, semi-monotonous speech ("reading from a script" quality) and I am never loud enough for people to hear me, though I think I'm shouting.
2. Problems with the strength and coordination of the speech muscles: No.
3. Problems with the understanding and use of vocabulary ( semantics ) and understanding and use of grammar ( syntax ) are evaluated: I'm not entirely sure what you mean by the first part. As for syntax, I think I'm fine with that.
4. Problems with the understanding and answering both yes-no (e.g., Is your name Bob?) and Wh- questions (e.g., What do you do with a hammer?): Yes. I tend to give long, convoluted answers that cover every possible variable of meaning that comes into my mind.
5. Problems understanding extended speech. You listen to a short story or factual passage and answers fact-based (the answers are in the passage) and inferential (the you must arrive at a conclusion based on information gathered from the reading) questions about the material. (Problems with either of these.): Yes. Reading, I can extract factual information without a problem, listening, I tend to miss information. Yes to inferential questions, as well, but again, more with speech rather than written (because I can go back over the material again if it is written down).
6. Inability to follow directions that increase in both length and complexity: Yes.
7. Inability to tell an extended story ( language sample ) both verbally and in written form: No, most of my "stories" are rather rambling.
8. Difficulty telling the steps needed to complete a task or telling a story, centering on a topic and chaining a sequence of events together?: Yes, I have trouble getting the sequence right for my listeners.
9. Problems describing the "plot" in an action picture?: I don't understand the question. Do you mean the "plot" of an action movie in it's entirety? Or the "plot" of an action scene?
10. Is your narrative often difficult to follow (not due to the subject of narrative)?: I think so.
11. Difficulty recalling the words needed to express ideas?: Not usually.
12. Problems with expressing yourself in complete sentences, telegraphic sentences or phrases, or single words?: No.
13. Slurred speech, difficult to understand or even unintelligible?: No.
14. Problems with social communication skills ( pragmatic language ): Yes. I tend to miss out on inferred information, and don't know when to speak. I often mistake sarcasm for seriousness.
15. Inability to interpret or explain jokes, sarcastic comments, absurdities in stories or pictures (e.g., What is strange about a person using an umbrella on a sunny day?): I can explain them.
16. Difficulty with initiating conversation and conversational topics, taking turns during a discussion, and expressing thoughts clearly using a variety of words and grammatical constructions: Yes. I almost never initiate conversation. My responses tend to be either very brief or unneccesarily lengthy and confusing.
17. Inability to clarify communication when your conversational partner does not understand: No, usually I can clarify when they let me know I'm making no sense
.
18. Reading and writing of letters, words, phrases, sentences, and paragraphs: No problems.
19. Oddities in the quality of the language expression, accuracy of spelling, and letter formation and spacing of words and letters on the page: No.
20. Difficulty swallowing (as needed): No.
21. Inability to use an augmentative or alternative communication aid (as needed): N/A
1. Somethimes with fluency, rather soft spoken, excellent clarity & pronunciation
2. I get toung-tied sometimes, but who doesn't
3. Sometimes, probably more than I think
4. No
5. What?
6. Yes, I'm fixated on the first process until it's complete.

8. Yes
9. Yes....I don't know why....I love movies so much. I hate it when friends ask me what the movies about.
10. Probably
11. Yes
12. Yes
13. No
14. I don't know
15. Usually no. I'm actually the most sarcastic and absurd person I know.
16. Yes when I was younger.....I don't bother much anymore.
17. Yes.....I get selfconsious and sut down or change the subject.
18. Atrocious handwriting, slow reader....poor reading comprehension. generaly don;t like to read unless it about something I have a genuine interest in.
19. Won the 4th grade spelling bee after being put on ritalin. Then I took German in highschool, a very "spelled like it sounds language" with a few exceptions....now I have a hard time spelling in english.
20. This has happend a few times......REALLY freaked me out.
21. uhhh.
22. Occasionally, only when excited. Catch myself immediately and slow things down.

20.no
21.no I think I am very good in that respect

If in case all were sort of wondering where I got this list from, it's a list I found of things to look for in Aphasic disorders (there are several kinds). I have been quite obsessed with Aphasia since I've found an uncanny resemblance to similar symptoms in the Autistic Spectrum. I, myself, find much in common with a milder form of Expressive Aphasia (expressive aphasia is supposedly linked with the cortical region known as Broca's Area).
I just thought this was interesting. I hopefully can one day look into and see if there are more than just behavioral similarities.
Have a nice day! ![]()

I should mention that if things aren't put in a very simle format, I get confused. And so, many questions probably won't be answered unless someone rewords them in an understandable way. Ironically, complex music is easy for me to understand.
1. Prentzel.
2. No.
3. Don't understand question.
4. Umm...I don't think so, asker of confusing questions.
5. Not at all, quite the opposite...Unless it's a subject I can't get myself interested in.
6. Ding!
7. I normally stop after a page or two. So, no.
8. I'm fine with this, I just don't like doing it; although I usually feel compelled to when peolpe don't know or understand something they should.
9. No, don't action movies usually have the simplest plots?
10. What narrative?
11. I don't think so.
12. Yes.
13. When I first wake up or when I'm muttering. But normally, no.
14. Looked up pragmatic, and still not sure I understand the question.
15. Sometimes, more than most people.
16. Just starting a conversation, usually.
17. If I confuse someone, I can usually un-confuse them if I fell like it.
18. What about it?
19. No, I think.
20. No.
21. It took me at least 5 years to understand the word adverb, as if that's even relevant.
22. Whwhwhwh-at was the thethethe ququques-st-st-tion? No, but used to long time ago.

Hello.
1. Problems with fluency, vocal quality and loudness, and the pronunciation and clarity of speech
Sometimes, my voice can be too loud or too soft. I really don't always adjust to the appropriate volume. I sometimes stutter or slur words.
2. Problems with the strength and coordination of the speech muscles
No.
3. Problems with the understanding and use of vocabulary ( semantics ) and understanding and use of grammar ( syntax ) are evaluated.
No, but I don't think this question completely made sense since it's in the passive voice and seems to be describing an action that someone does (i.e., someone evaluates problems with the understanding...).
4. Problems with the understanding and answering both yes-no (e.g., Is your name Bob?) and Wh- questions (e.g., What do you do with a hammer?).
No, not anymore. I used to get negative questions mixed up occasionally because I started thinking about things too logically ("Don't you like pizza?" I like pizza, so no instead of the idiomatically correct yes.)
5. Problems understanding extended speech. You listen to a short story or factual passage and answers fact-based (the answers are in the passage) and inferential (the you must arrive at a conclusion based on information gathered from the reading) questions about the material. (Problems with either of these.)
No.
6. Inability to follow directions that increase in both length and complexity.
I'll forget directions that are too long sometimes. If I'm asking for directions, for example, I follow the directions and then ask someone else when I'm closer to my destination if I've forgotten something.
7. Inability to tell an extended story ( language sample ) both verbally and in written form.
No.
8. Difficulty telling the steps needed to complete a task or telling a story, centering on a topic and chaining a sequence of events together?
No.
9. Problems describing the "plot" in an action picture?
No.
10. Is your narrative often difficult to follow (not due to the subject of narrative)?
I shouldn't think so! (By the way, how dare you question the ease of my narrative!
)
11. Difficulty recalling the words needed to express ideas?
This sometimes happens when I'm speaking.
12. Problems with expressing yourself in complete sentences, telegraphic sentences or phrases, or single words?
No.
13. Slurred speech, difficult to understand or even unintelligible?
See my response to Question 1.
14. Problems with social communication skills ( pragmatic language )
Yes, I often don't know exactly how to apply the simple niceties. Today I was wanting to start a bit of a conversation with someone in class, and I was wondering if you're just supposed to say how are you? She responded positively, so it was good.
15. Inability to interpret or explain jokes, sarcastic comments, absurdities in stories or pictures (e.g., What is strange about a person using an umbrella on a sunny day?).
No.
16. Difficulty with initiating conversation and conversational topics, taking turns during a discussion, and expressing thoughts clearly using a variety of words and grammatical constructions.
Yes, see my response to Question 14. Reciprocal conversation is a little more difficult. If it requires only auditory communication, I do better. If I'm expected to read facial expressions and body language accurately and quickly, I might miss many subtleties of the conversation and their attitude.
17. Inability to clarify communication when your conversational partner does not understand.
No.
18. Reading and writing of letters, words, phrases, sentences, and paragraphs.
No.
19. Oddities in the quality of the language expression, accuracy of spelling, and letter formation and spacing of words and letters on the page.
My syntax tends to be more complicated than some might like.
20. Difficulty swallowing (as needed)
No.
21. Inability to use an augmentative or alternative communication aid (as needed)[/quote]
Not applicable.
