Sometimes when i am watching a TV show or a movie there is a situation which is so embarassing that it is physically painful for me to watch it. Also when a weird, embarassing, or akward moment could happen in the future, and i fear it is going to happen, i can't watch. Usually seeing it isn't as bad as worrying about seeing it.
But people around me can't believe that i can't bear to see something like that.

doug is a perfect example. The cartoon, remember? Well doug would be imagining something embarasssing and absurd and i'd be crawling in my skin. Rest of the show is good though.

I wondered about that and empathy.

I don't usally feel bad when something bad happens to someone on TV. But when i see someone on TV do something stupid, I think "Boy, that person is DUMB, I'm glad i'm not him/ her."

*temporarily forgot what she was saying* Oh.. I get that feeling as well, like I'll feel sorry for the person or something like that. If it's a really sad/dramatical moment and the character/person is really upset/overjoyed sometimes I'll get overwhelmed with that emotion as well and have to fight really hard against feeling that. But I'm not sure if this is what you're asking? I know alot of NT's who get embarrassed for people when they know something embarrassing is going to happen.

It is for that reason I avoided Jim carry movies. I cant stand it is physically painful. All of my friends have learnt that if I berry my head in my lap block my ears and start humming just to ignore me except to tap me when that scene is over. I have become quite at learning what movies to avoided, and spotting “that scene” in movies before it happens. I fine I also have a simular felling with horror as well.

I don't have anything I avoid out of embarrassment per se... the only thing I have a real hard time watching is drowning scenes.

Ace ventura, pet detective. Some moments are funny, and others are *bite lip off* physically painful stupid and embarassing.

Human television and movies yes, cartoons, for the most part, no.

I don't register anything but discomfort which makes me not want to watch. Also since most human programs are incredibly predictable I don't like to watch them because they are boring. Wierd, because I can watch the same programs over and over if they are cartoons. Exceptions: The Mummy, The Mummy returns, The Wizard of Oz, I, Robot. Notice any pattern? The only fully human movie I can watch over and over is Noises Off. Lots of embarrassing moments, but so much slapstick it seems OK.

Me and my little brother (not-AS) are both like that. But never with Jim Carrey movies, I'm a huge fan and never spot any embarassing moments in any of his movies. The again, I have an odd definiton of what is and isn't embarassing.

Yes. That Mr. Bean movie about art ( the Whistler's mother painting) was that way for me. I couldn't really enjoy the movie because it was very painful for me to watch. Those Chevy Chase movies ("European Vacation" , there was o0ne about an American vacation, too) are at least as bad...I just canot watch them. :x

Actually, thinking about it more, kissing and intimacy scenes are also very uncomfortable for me to watch.

Mr. Bean didn't come to mind, but that movie was hard for me to enjoy too. I've also never been a fan of love scenes.

I own "As Good as it Gets" which is a human movie, but have not been able to watch it very often. It was incredibly painful and at the same time compelling. This may have been a rare moment of empathy for me. When the woman in the restaurant took away his plastic silverware and plunked down the filthy diner silverware I'd swear I was traumatized.* I felt physical pain. This is the best part of having the DVD - you can skip over the hard parts.

*I bring my own chopsticks to restaurants or wipe the silverware before I use it
