Support groups in Ohio?

Does anybody know of any support groups that meet in ohio? I have searched and asked around to no avail. I have never met another aspie in person.

Howdy Do..Are you in Medina County? Months ago, I saw in the Gazette that there was a support group in Brunswick..That was too far for me to travel.Sorry that I have no other info.

Never heard of one, and from what I can tell most psychs in Ohio are pretty ignorant about ASDs. There's a few Ohioans on this board, though. There's me, then Rainsong, techstepgenr8tion (I think) and a couple others.

Thank you! Its nice to here someone confirm what I have been thinking!

I went to a phycologist and counseler, and they were a complete waste of my time.

Next time, I'm going to an asd specialist.

I'm in Columbus, OH. Ohio State's Nisonger Center runs a support group for young adults on the spectrum: http://aspirationsohio.org/

The web site says people aged 17-30, but I think there are people older than this involved.

To my knowledge, they have become a lot more neurodiversity-friendly than their web site suggests. Currently their support group is the only one that's meeting, and as a result consists about half of parents and half of Spectrum people. Their meetings can be guest speakers or discussion groups and attendance is generally 10-30 people.

I contacted my local asd chapter and they told me about aspirations. I've thought about it, but they only meet eight times and it cost $250. It seems more like a teaching kind of thing than a meeting other aspies kind of thing. The other group they referred me to won't check their e-mail.
