Do you hear voices? No, I don't mean the voices of people around you, on television or the radio, or anything like that. I mean voices that exist wholly in your mind and no where else. They seem to be coming from outside you, though. You might not be able to understand the chatter, or maybe you do. Sometimes they talk about your life or tell you what to do next. They might praise you as the messiah or curse you.

Hearing voices like this is actually a fairly common aspie trait from what I've read. I want to know who else hears voices.

Uhhh.... Hearing voices is not necessarily a trait of AS per say, but a comorbitiy brought on by something else.

I never said I am hearing voices.

I don't hear voices but my schizoid roommate might.

The majority of my memories are of me thinking to myself and talking to myself so my voices wouldnt be someone else talking about me.

If someone is hearing voices from no discernable location, that sounds like schizophenia, not an AS trait. Of course, this is different from "hearing" the thoughts inside your head.

I only have one voice besides my own inside my head, he hasn't popped up in a while. Basically, I was so deep in depression and resentment of everything, my darker urges manifested themsleves into an alternate personality inside my head. Simply put, the darker side of my personality had a voice of it's own. It left with my depression, I was really really depressed.

Aspies are more prone to psychotic episodes especially in the teenage years and early adulthood. Also, I've noticed a subsection of Aspies who fit a Schizotypal PD very well also, and Schizotypals are supposedly more prone to psychosis, too.

Of which hallucinations are a part.

As for me, no. Even when I had a couple psychotic episodes back in highschool, I never hallucinated. I was more delusional than anything.

With regards to voices in the head, some would say it's schizophrenia - a therapist I know calls them subpersonalities and Scientology called them demon circuits. Some people just call them thoughts (all the same phenomena though).

I personally go for telepathy by beings outside our dimension.

It doesn't matter what you call them though but how you react to them that is important. The mentally unstable fight them - psychics listen to them and psychopaths obey their negative aspects (follow the self-destructive path that self-harmers do too - only it is others they project lack of worth onto). So it's a question of letting things 'be' or struggling with them and getting drawn into their world (life is simply energy released up and out as spirituality (letting go and letting grow) as death is energy bound down and in, into materialism (holding on and crushing the life (light) out of).

In the past, I used to hear echos of voices of bullies. For instance, I'd be sitting at home of my computer, riding a city bus to wherever, or even eating dinner, and I'd suddenly hear voices of bullies calling my name. But that's as close as I got to hearing voices in general.

Umm? Everyone Ive talked to in the MH field has said those are my inside voice and my critic and that everyone has them...

And you're a psychologist as well as a moderator with an undiagnosed case of AS?

Severe depression can also cause one to hear voices, and have other hallucinations. Go and look it up, and get your facts straight.

Having said that, I realise this is another one of Neanthumain's "I'm bored let's have some fun" threads.

nirrti rachelle said that it sounds like schizophrenia. she didn't say that she knew with absolute certainity that all auditory hallucinations are caused by schizophrenia.

lots of people on here (WP) have a personal interest in psychology and discuss their opinions on the subject and there are lots of undiagnosed aspie moderators on here too- so why are you singleing out nirrti rachelle for criticism?


anyway, i don't understand why so many schizophrenics feel inclined to act upon what "the voices" tell them to do. everyone knows that hearing voices is associated with acts of destruction. if i started hearing voices, personally, i would be suspicious about "their" intentions. i mean, you never hear about schizophrenics who felt compelled to help old ladies cross roads safely because the voices told them to.

You make it sounds so simple, almost as if schizophrenia can be cured by willpower alone.

And schizophrenics who don't commit acts of violence don't make the news, so no wonder you don't hear about them.
