I don’t get pleasurable physical sensations from learning, but in situations where I am learning on my own about something I am obsessively interested in, I feel a kind of natural high. I can focus, remember information, and spend long periods of time in that mental state. It is definitely very enjoyable and I absolutely love it when my mind switches into this mode. It is the exact opposite of my most frequent mental state, which is inattention and wandering daydreams.
This feeling only happens when I am engaged in self-learning. It’s never happened when being lectured to or taught. Almost anything presented to me verbally is impossible to focus on and is rapidly forgotten. This type of learning is frustrating and not pleasurable at all.
