I saw it, I too thought it very good for the same reason and also because of the way it was shown with humour which was not taking the piss but was warm and not patronising.

It was very funny and the acting was so realistic that I wondered if the child actoer were maybe really austistic.
It was a good way to show how different autism can be for different people, but I think it would have been good to have seen an adult with autism/Aspergers too who has adjusted somewhat manually to show how it can go unoticed in adults likw with my self as having Aspergers and having learnt a lot manually.

I saw the documentary of the family afterwards on BBC4 and a further documentary on autism after that.

I got my BF to record it on his PC too and he rang me at 4.36 this morning to tell me he had watched the recording and now feels that he might have AS. I have been saying this to him before I diagnosed myself and he has not related to the information I have emailed him even though he speaks of the issues often. So I guess for some people films / plays are a good way to relate things to yourself. I bet there will be an increase in the amounbt of people going for diagnosis now after the film.

Personally I was a litttle worried as always when autism is covered in this way as we are more often than not are seen by the media at large as rainman or curious incident of the dog in the night time types.
I think it was a good clear attempt the BBC made to intelligently portray autism to a wider audience. The sheer fact that autism cannot be seen makes it harder for people on the whole to actually understand and therefore deal with it. This was how I put it on the forums within my website http://www.phpbbplanet.com/forum/viewto ... pectru#228

I saw this too, and really enjoyed it.

the acting was so good i thought, and I agree everything was shown in a positive light and very funny and heart warming.

AreFriendsElectric, i reckon they will release it on DVD. BBC tend to release their dramas at some point. If not im sure if theres enough interest they will, we can fire off emails to them and say its important to the autism community etc.

So the aspies who watched this, would you say you acted exactly like Christopher ? Its the first time ive seen someone else who has Aspergers. It helped me understand it a lot more and also gave me another opportunity to self assess myself, because i only found out about AS under a year ago.

I was pretty sure i have it, but i dont think i was as severe as Chris, I mean there are a lot of thingsi have in common, like when he was talking to the doctor and she mentioned when people tell you to do something you ask yourself "is it likely?" i was the same as him, i thought ok but wtf does that mean? But i dont have such a big problem with reading facial expressions, and i know when to be honest or not, but i do cringe when i have to complement someone or i need to lie. But i do tend to misread what people say to me and take things too literally. Im now wondering if i really do have AS or im just an extreme shy/introverted scared of the outside world type person.
