So I had my first tutoring session for my math courses, and I am glad this is one on one and that the government is paying for it. I noticed a couple of things: the woman that is tutoring me is very NT by my standards, as I noticed nothing that could fit a non-NT. It didn't seem to bother her that I couldn't maintain eye contact (although it helped that I could focus on the the paper in front of me as if I were thinking, or that I was constantly stimming (just tapping my feet to no particular beat, and when not doing that, playing with my pen). I also wasn't very good at mentioning exactly what I was having difficulty with, and she was very good at figuring that out, for the most part. I was not very good at talking about anything not related to what I needed help with. I am never very good at off topic stuff though, unless it is speaking exactly what is going on in my head. I found her to be a very good tutor, and she did a much better job than any of the students I have had help from, as she adressed my needs rather than the particular question. I am so glad that the office for persons with disabilities at my school has such a great network of tutors that they have set up. This tutor I have has a masters in math, and seemed to be very good at helping me to understand what I was doing. I wish I has started the tutoring earlier instead of waiting, as it would have greatly helped me out with my courses, and I probably wouldn't be retaking my math. Now to drop my Japanese course, as there is no way I can pass it with all the help in the world and the time I am limited to. I just can't pick up languages fast enough to learn it.

Anyone else had to have tutoring, or have any experiences around tutoring? I'd like to hear some other stories around that.

Since I was so poor in school almost my entire life I have had extensive tutoring and for the most part it was a good experience. I have found that teachers who are willing to go that extra mile for a kid are indeed special individuals and it doesn't really make any difference if we are autistic or just need regular help with schooling.
