Sorry about going on and on about this... I will not be able to afford professional diagnosis anytime soon, but this whole thing is really bugging me. I don't want to get into labeling or anything - I know everyone, Aspie and NT alike, are unique and valuable - or potentially so.
I've taken this Wired AS test several times and always come to around 38 to 42. How reliable is this test? And if one still scores high and they would rule out Asperger's, what would that leave? Just a person who many others find rather strange?
Also, did anyone here have a problem with trying to explain your suspicions to others? Like, you stumbled onto this and said to someone close to you, "have you heard of Asperger's? I'm wondering if that's been my problem all along." I've done this but nobody's heard of it and they try to tell me I shouldn't worry about it, just an excuse to not get involved with the world, etc...

And if you successfully self-diagnosed yourself... what then?

I took it once and got a 17 and 38.
HFA is close to 20 and a NT is 24-30.

That is all I know about it.

All I know about the scoring of it is that NT females average about 15 and NT males around 17. A score above 32 seems indicative of being on the spectrum, average score for HFA/AS seems to be about 35. This was somewhat confirmed to me by an autism expert/researcher here in Canada that I know personally and that unofficially dx'd me (nothing on record for dx). I am self-diagnosed after my oldest son was diagnosed with Moderate Autism (HFA) back in July 2003. It all seemed to fit well and it has been agreed upon by several of the professionals that work with my oldest son. As far as an official assessment, still trying to work on that but it's hard to find someone that can diagnose AS in adults and I still have concerns of problems with custody/work if it was ever officially on my charts... but Dr. Bryson is going to still look for someone to do an official assessment if I want but has assured me that my self-diagnosis wasn't wrong and if I choose not to get the official assessment, she has promised confidentiality that all her paperwork and all remains between her and I unless I ask her to share it with another professional.

Anyone have a link to this test? I took one online test but it wasn't this one. I got scored in the Asperger's range.

I took that test and always seem to score 32-37...never been diagnosed, but friends I know who have experience with AS keep telling me I'm different than the AS people they know.

I've taken random "You might have..." tests for this disorder and that condition throughout the years, and sometimes would get perfect scores for things I couldn't possibly have, knew I didn't have, and everyone who knew me knew/said I didn't have. But this one was different. When they asked if you do NOT like reading fiction, I had a flashback to the horror that was known as "Battle of the Books" (15 novels in 15 weeks) back in elementary school, and the fact that this was the first test that actually had questions I could relate to, sent chills down my spine.

My sister told me a couple of weeks ago that she has had pupils with Asperger, and that I do not look like them, even though I am "withdrawn and odd".

I got around 34-36 or something like that.

I got 42. Maybe the answer to the meaning of life is coded in my responses

So the meaning of life is to be Autistic and so overcome the useless, destructive need to conform, consume and obey; thus evolving beyond the rest of life and gain closer access to the central being as your psyche will be more in tune with it?

Everytime I take this test and hit the "Calculate Score" button, I get an "Internal Server Error" message.

I just took this test and (after repeated angry, futile pressings of the "Calculate Score" button that doesn't work, resigned myself to the fact that I'd have to calculate my score by hand) got a 39. So what does that mean, really?

i got that error message too. bloody annoying.

Check my post above, it gives the scoring indication, 15 for NT females (average), 17 for NT males (average) and 32 above is indicative of autism spectrum disorder with average of 35 scored by HFA/AS individuals.
