So, be in the middle. Don't be single, and don't be married. :P

Being asexual/a-romantic is the best of both worlds. You aren't married and you don't want to be!

(Of course, there's a catch: You have to be born that way!)

sounds like a result of the societal pressures that people give in to without understanding what any of it really means. for those that are not married, they understand that getting married is something that people do and stemming from that fact, they may feel less a person if they don't do what people do. for those that do get married, they gain understanding though experience and may at that time learn that they didn't understand before. making descisions about things that are not understood will lead to regret a portion of the time.

I think that unreasonable expectations is a big part of it.
I never consciously thought to myself "I am lonely" until after I got married.
(My first marriage was brief and to a total loser.)
Before that, I was just me and didn't expect too much.
I can be perfectly happy alone.

but don't unmarried men die earlier than married ones?

i read an articlein the guardian a few years ago about how men of my generation (im 35) if still single in tehir 50s, 60s, would be eating take aways and playing computer games and living lonely, isolated, teenage style lives.

women on of the same age group were predicted to be much better able to cope, and would have a wide network of friends and active social lives etc.

basically- the future seems bleak for men either way.

I don't think getting married is a "societal norm". It is part of human nature to reproduce, and for human reproduction to be effective, we've evolved adaptations for man and woman living together, in marriage or whatever the cultural norm is.

Naturally, that is also why unmarried people die younger, especially if they have a drive to reproduce, and cannot do so. They will live unhealthy lifes when they do not fulfill their innate desires.

No matter what happens, something is always wrong aint it!

This is true in relation to humans, technology, nature... Everything!

I think marriage is just a stupid pointless artificial step in the relationship process that's not important anymore unless you are strictly religious anyway, so I will never get married, even if I do one day decide to have a family (which at the the moment I don't want to do).

and still without the figures, we can't understand the extent. 5% could be #1 cause being the most frequent cause but still a relatively small part of the big picture.
