So ive been sick for a couple days, and tried two new medicines, one a stronger form of nostrilla and two a homepathy with echnicnia in it. Around friday or saturday I lost my taste and smell. I stopped both medicines today to see if i can get it back by tommorrow if not lets just say im going to lose it big time. Anyways as most of you know I'm a huge sensory seeker, and i seek smell and taste all the time, along with noises, sight and touching. Well since i lost those two sensorys, I've been fixating MORE so on oral feeling. I've been putting everything in my mouth, soap, paper, wood, plastic, lets just say everything you can think of 8O , and I'm afraid i'm going to stick soemthing and not realize i can choke or die from it, because my brain loves to take a leave of absentces and most of the time im not thinking anything, dont have those type of reasoning skills where (if i do this, this will happen) . Does anybody know a solution to this? because I'm searching for anything to relieve that sensory!or any type of advice?

Could the loss of sense,be due to the illness, rather than the medicine-and just be a coincidence to happen at the same time?
is it a recognised side effect of them?

Am bite/swallow all of those things as well [though not bars of soap, certain colours of fairy liquid] but have never gotten ill from it,it will depend what swallow.
minimise the amount of stuff available to self that is easily picked up,such as locking all soaps, bleaches, shampoos etc in a cubord, and have it so others have got the control over them,so they're able to stop self from having a sensory or pica moment with the wrong stuff, this is what they have to do to anywhere am live, can get a basic lock put onto most cubords.

thanks!! !! idk i do notice since i stopped taking both of those meds mainly cuz now im on antibiotics i can get a wiff of smell or wiff of taste every now and then so im pretty sure its jus due to those meds, but also does have a part with my illness i had flu symptoms then now i have a sinus infection. To tell u the truth though it got so bad that i started doing things i use to do when i was a toddler like put my hands in the toilet eat things like kitty liter from the box, just stuff that shouldnt be eaten. when i was in the shower i choked on the soap and stopped breathing for a bit, i was turning blue thankfully was able to throw it up, then yet again stupid me jus puts again back in my mouth, idk why either. I think thats what im going to do though, lock everything up, and only let edible stuff like actual food by me at all times, thanks!! ! you always have the best advice! I'm hoping i get my smell and taste back soon!

sinus infection...that can do a lot to sense of smell if its still got some...gunk stuck in there.

As for litter, dont think that stuff would be too bad if were not having it constantly, cats and dogs do it
and don't get problems usually [as long as it isnt a big type like bio catolet, that one and others like it has broken cds in it]

If have got hold of something swallowable and are in a 'pica mood',dont neck it back if can stop self, use as small amount as possible,it might end up being enough for that time.
with sensory seeking through biting,am recommend building a routine around a few objects,so will have less need for going for more poisonous stuff-this is what am do..indoors will use edge of bed/doors/tables etc, game covers, the wall padding, fairy liquid if can get hold of it,self......if am outdoors will go for grass and sticks or use self.

I've noticed that when I have a cold, I can't taste much of the flavor of the food I eat. They say that what we perceive as taste is actually mostly smell, that the sense of taste is limited to very basic stuff like sweet, sour, salty, and bitter.

It could be that the loss of taste and smell you're experiencing is caused by you being sick.
