The five-pointer stars on the Australian and New Zealand flags are constructed slightly differently. The NZ stars are made along five straight lines of equal length, like those on the US flag. Simple enough. The one on the Australian flag is made by connecting five equidistant points on an imaginary outer circle with five equidistant (but "opposite") points on a smaller, inner imaginary circle. The result is that the Australian 5-pointer star is made up of ten smaller lines of ten different gradients, none of which are entirely horizontal or vertical. I only learned this constructing both flags on my computer using Inkscape. Fun mathematical exercise, if a little tedious.

The Egyptian hieroglyph for H looks like a braid!

During World War II, British PM Winston Churchil took amphetamines repeatedly to be able to stay up and plan the war.

Doesn't really make me think any different of him, however....

the Minolta RD-175 was the first commercially available camera to be used professionally, used to shoot all the scenes of the neverhood.

Your smallest jeans pocket is meant for a watch. Cowboys used to attach watches to their waistcoats with a chain, but they would fall out and get broken - so Levi’s added a tiny watch pocket for protection.

The 7 billion people on Earth collectively weigh about 750 billion pounds, which is more than 100 times the biomass of any creature that has ever existed on our planet.

Ed Edd n Eddy was the last cartoon to be done in traditional pen and ink, all other cartoons after 2004 were done in CGI, digital or Adobe Flash. EEnE itself switched to digital in its fifth season, in 2005. The result was more vivid colors and more fluid animation.

Rugrats ran from 1991 to 2004, making the longest running Nicktoon at the time of its cancellation. It had several specials, 2 full movies and a cross over movie, and 3 proposed spin-offs. All Grown Up, which lasted four years, Pre School Daze, which only had six episodes, and the Carmichles, which never made it beyond the planning stage. It would have starred Suzie and her family.

Maps are lying to you. Africa is larger than China, Western Europe, and the U.S. combined, but its true size isn’t reflected on standard maps.

This is true. The most common projection for world maps is the Mercator projection (basically a globe with a lightbulb inside placed inside of a cylinder) which exaggerates sizes towards the Poles and shrinks the tropical areas near the Equator.

On most world maps Greenland is the same size as all of South America. In fact Greenland is about the same size as Mexico (800 thousand square miles), and South America is about six million square miles.

Since records were first kept in 1906, the city of Buenos Aires, Argentina has only had THREE recorded instances of snowfall.

The Fairly Oddparents episode "Twistory" was banned from airing for nearly decade due to excessive British stereotypes (everyone had bad teeth, over-the-top accents.). Fairly Oddparents has always had big issues with stereotypes (especially British ones) but most fans agree that this episode was the worst about it. The episode recently started to air again, however.

The Cow and Chicken episode "Buffalo Gals" was banned due to a woman writing to the studio complaining about lesbian stereotypes in the episode. Such as the all-female biker gang featured in the episode being called the "Carpet Munchers". Which is slang for female-on-female oral sex.

To eat at the world's best restaurant (El Celler de Can Roca in Spain), you have to wait at least a year. They have only three employees whose only job is to say 'No' for any reservation related inquiries.

the arrangement of leaves on a plant is phyllotaxy.

The most artistic stops in the world of any subway network, are there at the Skt. Petersburg metro, Russia. If you ever visit my neighboring country, please, don't skip these tunnels.

Mrs. Hedviga Golik, Croatia, was found dead after sitting 42 years in her armchair in front of her black-and-white tv set. The firemen who finally opened her door, described her apartment as a museum.
