Learning, always, with the help of loved ones who can see the forests despite the trees.

Oh, wow Kazanscube! I'm sorry I didn't reply sooner but I just saw this question now.

That's a deep question for me. I am a survivor of long-term calculated and sinister abuse involving confinement, violence, degradation, identity theft, financial theft and psychological control by fear. I say this on a public forum because I'm no longer ashamed to admit what I endured in the course of seven years, and I hope to help others in whatever small ways I can.

My road to recovery began in 2009 and it has been rocky at best, but I've come a long way especially with my ASD diagnosis in May. WP has been a big part of this, and especially my dear confidantes without whom I can't always face the day.

Old or new me? Assuming I can't go back to my life pre-2002 when it all began, I choose a mix of both Isabellas. Thank you Kortie for seeing the importance for me to integrate both people, so that I can use my horrendous experience as a springboard to the future.

The name Isabella Linton is in tribute to a heroine in Wuthering Heights who met a fate similar to mine. I draw strength from her character and hope others can be equally inspired by the will to endure.

Learning from the past most definitely, however painful that may be.

Revenge or forgiveness?

Forgiveness. Vengeance never solves anything--it just creates more and more pain and more and more problems.

Spaghetti or Ramen?

Staying at home because I have next to no interest in sports.

The Avengers or The X-Men [movies versions]?

I like both equally, I think. Maybe X-Men slightly more. I prefer movies centered around one character, to be honest. Too many characters confuses me.

Professor X or Magneto?

(Hi psjcrab - I wanted to say how nice it is that you enjoy Charlotte Brontë! VIllette or Jane Eyre?)

and to anyone else who responds:
chocolate or vanilla milkshake?

Hi Isabella, I just read your post about your past. I’m sorry you endured so much. I had no idea. You always seem so lovely on the forums. Strength to you! it’s great that you learnt from it. Hope you’re doing well now.

Jane Eyre.
(Man I have some strong nostalgia associated with it. I loved literature in school and I played Jane Eyre during a play in school. I am not as strong as her but hope to be.)
