I'd like to go down and try to see what we (or others  ) have dropped into the ocean over the eons. We've found a couple interesting things in the shallow end of the pool.

The Antikythera mechanism or the Analytical Engine?

the former as it is the most mysterious, i'd like to see it totally as it was, including its inventor explaining it in utter detail.

I've been trained in the algebra, but the more I think about it the more it seems like just another form of magic that gets applied in sane ways in some places and insane ones in others. Even the I Ching seems to have an internal logic, it's just where it connects to outside reality that's the problem.

they seem more alike than different, the latter one seems the macro version of the former. flip of the coin for the former, less widespread nastiness, localized lackadaisical morals.

I would agree about the similarity. I tend to think we have a slightly more idealistic orientation towards the latter though, whereas the former has succumbed entirely to a mathematical solution built on fearful assumptions and shortsightedness.

Still more comfortable with feet, inches, pounds, ounces and miles, even after half a century of metrication in this country.
