I don't know if there's anything that you can do to speed up your body's repair processes, but try to a) not go out in the sun as much until healed again AND b) when you do go out wear long sleeves (id est, keep the sunlight from contact with any skin you don't want sunburned further.) Try to reduce continuing damage. Wear sunblock if it works. Most stores only sell the crappy SPF 15 though, so it's better just to wear clothes to block the UV. That's what I do anyway. I live on the 45th parallel though, so it might not be so great in warmer temperatures.

Wear a very wide hat - about 6 feet wide should keep all the sun off.

Incorrect, it would only block the lower frequency light. Due to the shorter wavelength UV behaves more like a particle than visible sunlight and does reflect/"bounce" more so.
