What about accountants? HR and Marketing can go, but would you like your taxes grilled or deep fried?

I'd better keep the accountants than the others, I found they were more honest - in their ways.
But you can get the Financial Directions if you wish. Long last roasted please.

That's a winning prize!

I've had several accountants over the years. They have either been expensive or incompetent, sometimes both. A common failing is accountants forgetting to submit documents to government bodies before due dates resulting in fines for late submission. My last accountant died leaving my financial affairs in quite a mess; thankfully the tax authorities eventually conceded that death was a fair excuse and let me off some late submission fines.

Stinks that he left you a mess of paperwork, but good that it was straightened out finally.

What is accounting like out in Europe? My last quarter's textbook had mentioned some about the differences between American and German systems, that the equation is still the same though the reporting order is different to emphasize liabilities. But how about in France and England? Still have the same basic balance sheets, statement of income, statement of owner's equity?

Oh no! Oh no! That's not a winning post!
Open a new thread, a serious one if you wish.

Let us win in peace please.

I have three entirely different sets of accounts to fill out. They all vary considerably. One is my personal tax return for France which is a nightmare especially since all the cryptic questions are in French anyway. I also have to do a personal tax return for the English tax authorities and finally a corporate tax return for my company in England - that isn't as grand as it sounds - the company's only employee is me and my income is variable between modest and none-existent - currently the latter. I hate filling in all these forms because the language is often so technical and I don't understand what I'm being asked so usually just enter zero for those things. I only had an accountant because they understand the questions and can fill these forms in correctly. However, I can't afford to use an accountant again so I've got to do a crash course on corporate accounting using a couple of books I've bought. It is all wasted time and effort from my point of view, spending countless hours messing with figures to keep some bureaucrats happy.

Anyway, I win this thread, for the moment at least.

If you need help deciphering the questions, I can try. I've only taken accounting 1 so far though, so you may know more than me. Certainly in practice. But I have some technical knowledge of terms and textbooks to reference available here.

Otherwise, happy New Year fairly soon. And also, I win.

Thanks for the offer. I'm not sure how consistent technical corporate language is between UK and US company law. Part of the problem is the authorities sometimes use language and ask questions relevant to large multi-national companies with complex share-holder / dividend arrangements and voting rights. I had to fill one online form last month with a question relating to the above and the text entry box was mandatory. I just entered "I don't understand the question" and they accepted the form! They can't accuse me of telling lies on the form anyway!

I win!
