ah i'm fine. don't feel like a senior though...it's like i'm still a junior and there's no one above me.

as it turns out my new American Government teacher is a pretty kool guy. his classroom is an explosion of odds and ends and past projects. he's got a choir-worthy voice too.
he lived in the Ukrainian SSR as a young adult, he speaks some Russian.

Well, someone who speaks Russian has got to be cool.

I'm not surprised you don't feel like a senior. I think it's a universal thing.

I can't believe I'm turning forty in a week or two. Mentally I still feel about 21. Physically is a diffferent matter, but that's because I tend to be physically more ambitious than my talents really allow for, and I'm starting to pay for it.

he is. i'm not surprised if he ends up being my favorite teacher...but that might change if he makes his joke about tardies singing a reality. i bike home for lunch and i'm pretty bad at judging when i'll get somewhere... (his class is after lunch)

are you doing anything special for your birthday Mooms? anything with your husband or family perhaps? or just alone? that's what i did when i turned 15, stayed home and not cared about it at all. i spent my 16th in a beginning Italian course.

...i still can't believe i'm in secondary school! it's like just yesterday i was in 6th grade, playing fantastic contraption in the back of the class...

Well, if the singing threat looks like a reality, maybe you should time how long it takes you to ride from school to home. Then add in a factor of safety in case of delays, and set an alarm for whatever time you need to leave home by.

At least you get to go home for lunch, that breaks the school day up a bit.

I don't normally bother about birthdays (we don't do gifts, and I prefer a nice homecooked meal to going out) but as it's a round number, and as we are glad to be at the end of a long cold winter, we are planning a week in the pacific islands to celebrate.

That makes me happy to hear, you oughta to something special like that, at least as long as it's something you'd really enjoy.

Well, I'm not looking forward to the 'getting on a plane' part, but lying down somewhere warm and doing nothing but reading and napping sounds like heaven right now.

The number 40 has its own word in Russian, сорок (sorok). It shows no trace of 4 or 10, it is a word in its own right. What is funny, when you translate "forty magpies" into Russian, you get сорок сороки.

You are reminding me of the Russian alphabet, which is somewhere in the dim depths of my memory. I am keen to study that again when Finnish gets a bit further along.
