Drunk as a doornail at the library? I don't think that would be allowed here.


Do you know, we have a security guard at our local library. Sad state of affairs.

None such needed. We don't shout at public libraries. Or bus stops or market places. Or anywhere. We don't even shout or cry in elevators stuck between floors. We simply wait it out.

Do you also wait it out if stuck between two bears? Surely that would evoke a yell for help from fellow Finns?

LOl, ok. Bears need ring no bell. They are few. Wolverines are a real threat. They catch cattle.

here, coyotes are coming down and killing pets. they need food.

I'm glad I don't live there. I would be constantly worried for my pets.

At least today WP is working. I've had quite a few days where it doesn't want to load. I just give up and go study my languages.

wp has never been more than it's usual frustrating self for me. if it was i'd likely work on a drawing of mine or work on my road map. it's almost time for a new sheet! but here i am.

i'm alright, thanks. i was taken out of class today for some counseling on the solarium per IEP protocol. the only comment the teacher i had next had to say was the misspelling on the pass the counselor wrote.
i, and several others had to quickly scrawl our signatures many dozens of times on fundraiser sheets to "add appeal" i'm surprised i didn't get lazy at the end and lose my consistency, but...any more and i might have needed a new wrist.

you? have you easily switched back to life down in NZ? or more than the usual amount of stubbornness?

(i noticed there's not very many here who type in all lowercase like i do. i wonder what the percentage is.)

I'm good too thanks. Still catching up with my languages from time away. I had more than 1200 words to revise on Memrise when I got back. I'm now down to about 200. Once those are up to date then it's back to my textbook for Finnish, and reading for Italian. It's good to be home though.

Do you have many maps Kip? Do you keep them all somewhere? I have a vision of huge piles of big sheets of paper covered in your maps.

A few people here have mentioned they are having problems with WP loading. I saw Murihiku mention it, and I know jk1 is having the same issue. Sometimes it's fine, sometimes it times out before it loads anything. It's odd how not everyone gets it. I wonder if the new site will be up soon?

I don't know if I've seen anyone else here who only writes in lower case. Does your computer autocorrect to put capital letters at the beginning of sentences and you have to undo it?

my road map if made of paperblank-sized sheets stuck together, so it folds up. my (larger) sketchbook is spilling all sorts of loose papers.

my really big map used to be on my piano-desk but it was hard to work around when i wanted to get something from there, but there's not much other room to put it, and i don't want to roll it up. what textbook do you use for Finnish?

the site does look stuck in the mid 2000s, and the header and buttons look outdated but i really like the soothing green-blue color scheme. as far as sites go WP is rather easy on the eyes. i hope the incarnation doesn't change it up too much, whenever it may come.
nah, my computer doesn't auto correct to capitals thankfully, if it did i'd likely stick with it though.
my phone does, and it hates WP for some reason...? i see auntblabby and b9 writing in lowercase regularly.

I use 'Beginners Finnish' by Agi Risko. I've also printed off some of the Foreign Service Institute course (it's free) but its 700+ pages, so a bit initimidating! I'm also working my way through the 'Top 3000 words of Finnish' course on Memrise.

I think most people here would like all the problems of WP to go away, but a lot of us don't like sudden change. I like the green and blue too. I know at one point they put up an example of the test site, and people were complaining it was too bright and glary, so hopefully they will listen to feedback.

I'll have to look at b9 and auntblabby's posts a bit more carefully next time I see them. Is there a reason you avoid capital letters?

you say they put up an example of the test site? when? (i joined in march but i hardly posted on here until late april/may). lots of sites have at least options to change the basic color scheme, maybe WP 2.0 will have it. i hope. listening to feedback is the least they could do after all the site neglect, blah blah.

i don't have any grudge against capitals or anything, as long as you get your point across coherently i just don't see why it's as important as some people tend to make it. (though it might be easier to read for some). also never learned to type, um, "properly" so it's an extra bit of trouble to press shift every time.

but mooms, something very bad happened this morning to my drawings and maps and papers.

let's just say i'll remember to screw on the lid more tightly next time. (i have pictures of the carnage)

I can't remember when it was, a long time ago. I saw Tallyman post just recently that he had tried the beta version a few weeks ago. He had no idea how long it would be until release though.

Hi Kip, did you manage to save your maps and drawings? I know how one feels when something happens to ruin such stuff, such as it getting wet or otherwise damaged.

Hey Mooms, I'm still on med for my heel so it's making me a bit drowsy so I'm not very bright eyed - ibuprofen does that to me and makes my brain work on two cylinders only. When I_wanna_blue returns we'll have another Southerner here, dunno where he's been lately...

Early morning here and the birds are welcoming the rising sun...

it was water. thankfully, they were not hit in critical areas. my two books and my binder were all affected. i left my little book with thr road map out in the (perpetual) sun to dry but everything else is a very tiny bit damp.

thankfully, very little damage seen here, the orange marker represents major highways (minor ones are shown with orange colored pencil) and were clearly wiped off the map. imagine the traffic congestion...

the damage was worse in another area that i haven't shown but i am not particularly proud of that part of the city, i tended to rush at that time.

this was a mere paper with writing but i really like how it ended up.


this wouldn't be the first time this particular map got water damage.
