Lets do it right this time.

We will count back to the big bang- as in that other thread.

But this time we will do it logarithmically (or geometrically) by powers of two.

Forget your birthyear. We will just start with one, and double each step back in time (1,2,4,8,16,...).

And to spice it up- you're required to throw in a little play-by-play and color into your post by stating what was going on (in your personal life, and/or the world scene), at the numbers of years back that you post. We will start with one year back, then do two, then four years back, and so on.

I'll start.

ONE.

A year ago- a truck sideswiped my little minivan. No one was hurt. But the other driver was an assbleep. The Syrian civil war raging. And 'Hunger games' came out.

TWO years back.

In 2012 Obama was reelected, and the Arab Spring uprisings broke out.

Four years back in 2010 the Montreal Expos became the Washington DC Nationals baseball team.

In 1998 "Titanic" won the best picture oscar. CBS broadcast "the Wizard of Oz" for the last time, and Japan both hosted the Winter Olympics, and became the first country besides Russia and America to send a probe to Mars.

1950 was the year.

The Korean War starts.
It was the McCarthy Era.

A year after Mao took over China, and a year before a bumper crop in UFO sightings in 1951.

256 years takes us back to 1758.

That was the year Carl Linneaus publish his zoology books which started the modern "Linean" system of species classification.

It was the third year of the Seven Years War (known in North America as the "French and Indian Wars")between the world's two rival superpowers: England and France. Many major battles were fought that year in that war in Europe, Asia, North America, and on the high seas.

1024 years ago in 996 AD the local peasants of Normandy rose up in revolt against their Scandanavian rulers (one time Viking) rulers. I wonder if that had anything to do with those same rulers of Normany invading England and conquering the English 70 years later in 1066.

And the first and still largest mosque in Beijing was built where it still stands on "Cow Street" ( I didnt even know there were any mosques, or any Muslims, in Beijing China).

2048 years ago in 34BC:

It began on a Friday apparently but then there is some discrepancies between calendars so it could have started on a Saturday or a Sunday.

Anyway, I can't find any historical events for this actual year.

Well..

That ws thirty years before Christ is REALLY thought to have been born (4 BCE).

The Roman Empire was expanding: Augustus and Mark Anthony were conquering provinces. The latter also made his fateful alliance with Cleopatra about that time.

FOUR THOUSAND AND NINETY SIX YEARS AGO.

We can start rounding off now since records will get less precise, and the timescales are getting larger.

Call it 2100BC.

In the middle of the Bronze Age Abraham leaves the city of "Ur of the Chaldeans" and founds the Jewish people. And starts talking to God.

^^So did Abraham make god?^^

6800 BC–4800 BC: The earliest domesticated pigs in Europe, which many archaeologists believed to be descended from European wild boar, were introduced from the Middle East by Stone Age farmers

That was about 8192 years ago.

The Bible says God went out of his way to talk to HIM. Told him to start this whole monotheism thing.

I dont think Abraham would like you mentioning him in the same post that you talk about pork domestication!

NOT kosher!

16000 year ago. Fourteen thousand BC.

The final stages of the last Ice Age. New York City was buried under thick ice. Hunter gathering bands chased mammoths out of Siberia and into Alaska becoming the first Americans.

30000 BC: Ivory horse is carved in what is now Vogelherd, Germany - the oldest known animal carving of mammoth ivory.

WOW! I can't believe how far we've gone back in time. It's really exiting to see what was happing back then.
