Lau, your auditory and viual what-evers are a form of stimulation aren't they? This stuff is so out of my league.
In some of the other threads I read about despair, depression and suicide. Maybe you could start another thread called what the brain can do or aspie potential.

Not really. I think both can be true, to an extent.

I don't have the videotape memory, but close to it, for some things. However, much is just not recorded... especially anything before I was about 18, which is as far back as I truly believe the current me properly exists (and don't try to get me to explain that in any more detail, because I don't quite know what I mean by it, anyway).

On the other hand, none of what memory I do have seems... significant to me. The present instant is all that concerns me. What's gone is gone, what hasn't happened yet might be interesting - I hope so. (So maybe I'm not exactly indifferent to the future - better would be to say unconcerned by?)

-------------

Sacks - over the last year I've read "Migraine", "Awakenings" and "The Man Who...". The library has "Uncle Tungsten", but it's always on loan when I remember to look for it. "An Anthropologist on Mars" I must dig out from somewhere... it sounds interesting.

-------------

Scintillating scotoma - I know it is part of migraine aura. I just don't get the migraine itself.

I've just been having a play. I've decided that my whole vision is permanently doing it (the scintillating). I just don't "notice" it. (Same as the tinnitus). What I have suggested is me getting the scotoma effect, as conventionally described (when it covers a small area and last for a few minutes) is in reality just occasions where my visual cortex is just not finishing up with a picture in those areas. I suspect that means that, so far as I can see(pun?), negative scotoma is just when I'm neither getting the final image nor noticing the scintillation in an area.

Anyway, the play consisted of watching the scintillations on a wall, then lying down, to fully appreciate the ringing along with it. Next turning off the light and covering my head with a pillow. Calling up some less simple patterns. Yes. I could definitely get into this self induced audio/visual event management game. Who needs drugs when you have a controllable sensorium.

Seriousgirl....yes,200mg was a bit extream....they were trying to make me "happy",happy isnt something I really do...It actually just turned me into a zombie....No meltdowns but no nothing...not a good situation. The Effexor does all I really want from antidepressants....I dont cry all the time for "no known reason"...that was annoying.Doesnt help with "getting upset over small things or anger bursts"....not sure how to "fix" that.

I do have some very vivid memories, lay outs of houses, bugs and rocks I found (before 3 grade) but I dont remember people very well.I was supprised when I found old report cards that said I had problesm staying in my seat, standing to close to peers and "helping" them with homework.....my memry of school was building houses for bugs out of sticks and rocks, climbing the jungle gyms.....thats about it,kids are not in my memory until Jr High(a few)and hardly at all in High school...I certainly wouldnt be going to any school reunions from high school or college.

We only want UbbyUbbyUbby to survive in RW so that he can get on with his life. The more I sit in this coffee shop the more I understand the gifts he's been given. The curriculum teaches him lots of things like how to begin a coversation, how to end a conversation etc. We've only had it a week so don't know too much.

Been thinking about a signature. Could be "hold on to your differences' but not quite right.

Nana,

Ubby needs to learn those old time deportment things. That's how we all learned to survive. Temple Grandin talks about this as well. We learned all of that by rote. They don't teach that in school now days apparently. That's a shame. Ubby will be fine. We did it and he can too. My teachers figured out my brain was my best friend and fed it. Best thing anyone ever did for me. They didn't treat me like some freak. In fact, I think they kind of liked me because I was different. I came from such a small, isolated place that there probably wasn't much difference what with us all being interrelated somehow. LOL They were probably happy for some variation! Anyway, the best thing you can do is to encourage his intelligence and help him muddle his way through the rest. Don't buy too heavily into the psychobabble and balance it with good old fashioned common sense.

As for a signature line, how about hold on to what makes you unique?

I agree with the almost drug type effect. My mind is so visual I can basically do an LSD trip whenever I feel like it. I couldn't really understand why people used drugs when I was younger although it did bring them closer to what I experienced.

I wonder if the scotoma is caused by current running over the brain. Did you see where they observed that effect in migraine sufferers? They think that it causes many of the symptoms. Maybe it just causes visual anomalies. I know my vision distorts so badly I can't drive when I have a migraine. My sensory issues become amplified almost 100 fold. It's very disturbing.

You best be careful with that pillow or you won't have to worry about the future.

The further adventures of Adventuring Aspie Al

Chapter VI*

My stories of the pygmy’s^ and their evul brethren the munchkins are a horror to be told. I'm afraid I can only stand to tell small parts at a time. There is also much I have forgotten, but I leave it to the readers to remind me.

This all happened many years ago, while I was traveling the upper reaches of the lower Zawbii river. I made the mistake of following one of it's minor tributaries. I shudder to even remember the place. I had been following muffin crumbs and tiny sandpaper covered feet prints. I had become hungry, so I sat to make a minor brunch of ants , muffins and spam. I had been noticing an increasing amount of displeasure, as I ate, on my rump parts. I had assumed it was just angry ants, as I was sitting on their hill. I became alarmed, the pain increased as the ants decreased (they taste like chicken when dipped in a fine vintage ketchup). Finally I pulled out my trusty mirror and examined my poor ever glowing rumpage. I was stunned, I could not move. I mean there were all these little poison darts in my backside. When I finally realized I could move, I reached for my Chinese fart rag to wipe my sweating brow. I then pulled one out and much to my surprise it wasn't a poison dart at all. It was an tiny ink quill. I heard tiny tittering and the slurping of lollipops from the bushes. I was troubled by the noise, but figured it was just my pet, named Chuck, enjoying his cookie in my ear. "Ink quills or poison pens?", I thought, I just had to look. With much embarrassment and the sudden flight of flying monkeys for miles around as I dropped my drawers and assorted silverware. I fell to my knees and screamed at the heavens. I had been tattooed. Oh, the horror!! I hadn't even picked out the design and I knew whom had done it. They had tattooed 13 fly’s on my ass. It was their little way of telling me I stink. My eyes grew red with revenge. My tongue moved nervously from side to side, catching the last of the drops of catsup. I peered with a glare into the dense over and under growth and knew what my course would be. After all, I had used deodorant a mere four days ago, while wallowing in the river Zawbii. It just wasn’t fair.

I am exhausted from this small telling. I must rest before I go on. I suffer badly from the madness I contracted there. Revenge, yes, I was hell bent on revenge. I knew whom had done this. For it was the very whoms I had been searching.

PostPaleo -

Your Adventures of Aspie Al are absolutely hilarious. I want more - every day. Please!
Ants that taste like chicken, 13 flies tatooed on your ass. What a fascinating imagination.

Where can I find chapters 1-5?

You can't yet as they have not been written. :D I most always read things sorta of backwards, but generaly from the start if it's something that I need to study on. I decided to read this one from the middle

I like the flying monkeys! I could hear the music in my head! Where is Margaret Hamilton? She put them up to those flies I'm sure. But here is the real question...does Dorothy also have flies tattooed on her ass?

As for visual and audio self amusement, I'd never considered a tinfoil hat until now. Hmmmm, hartz, are we hearing (and seeing) the sun's song?? Must get the aluminium foil out of the kitchen drawer and fashion something stylish. Must remember to do this when the Missus isn't about, as that wouldn't be something I'd want her to discover. Most recently I've been reading and re-reading the Wiki description of Auditory Processing Disorder. (Thanks SeriousGirl ! !) I'm sure I have this, and I only wonder how long I've struggled with it. I'm pretty certain I remember telling the Missus back when we were dating that restaurants are a terrible place to have a conversation with me. I can't filter out background noise. I also can't hear what she's telling me most of the time. She thinks I'm the laziest listener she's ever had to put up with ! !

Humm, that is a poser. I wonder if Dorothy became a stripper later, there might be witnesses. Only time will tell about the flying monkeys

I did a little question poll on if I multitask or not, I was stunned, I don't. In other words if I'm doing something and the Wife speaks to me, I either stop doing what I am up to and talk to her or what she says just sort of falls into the back ground noise. My bad when I am a little upset to be drawn into a conversation that is trival to me when I have something that I feel is monumental to the universe at large. Just knowing that I don't multitask has been another tool in the arsenal of letting the Wife better understand what's going on and why I react to certian things the way I do and yeah, treat her better. Sure I could give the baby a bottle and answer the phone and kick the dog at the same time, but when I look back at it, it wasn't an involunteery action, each was compartmentalized, just in a fast order of things. I was devestated in a way to know can't multi task, however the up side is, get me on an obsession and I'll leave ordinary people in the dust.

Tin foil hats, maybe they should be on the inside, maybe what ever it is thats causing the noise, is over flow, the wires aren't insulated enough from the other wiring near by. What would one do for an inner tin foil hat. I know, drugs!!

I had problems with it this morning when I went for coffee Prof. Someone was talking next to me and coffee dude was trying to say something to me. I said, "I can't hear you with all this racket in my ears!" Of course he used that as an excuse to come out from behind the counter which I hate and stand too close to me. Humph. I just want my coffee and silence. How hard can this be? Although I do have to hand it to coffee dude, he lived through one of my meltdowns and they are fierce and unpredictable. Still, he needs to stay on his side of the counter and not try to touch me.

Sorry to butt in ... I'm NannaRob's daugher and UbbyUbbyUbby's mum. I was just being nosey, seeing what mischief NannaRob is getting into.

Anyway, yesterday morning the kids were talking about their best friends, and UbbyUbbyUbby said, 'My brain is my best friend'.

The more I read on WP the more excited I get about all this people on his wavelength.

I've read Anthropologist From Mars - it was absolutely fascinating.

I'll leave now - I'm only 33.5. I'll come back in 6.5 years!
