Just remember just because you don't think what you said was offensive doesn't mean people thought that too. It's probably one of the most common symptoms of being on the autism spectrum.

I was at AFF and the stuff they threw at TM was horrible. I always commended him for holding it together.

I view Autism Speaks like they are just another autism charity. I don't care about getting worked up about it anymore and frankly, can't see why people will waste all their time giving hate speeches about them. I really don't think eugenics is an agenda. I just think they want to help people with autism get the best out of life and most times that does mean growing out of their symptoms.

Some people at AFF were even against ABA. Yeah, because it's better to let people be themselves even if it means they won't get anywhere in life? Although, personally as a PDA, I would have never liked ABA. But since I got over my stubbornness I've experienced so much of this world that I wouldn't have if I was still the same.

Anyway, I'm out. TM is a nice guy. I wish him the best for all his upcoming articles and that hackingautism thing he's doing with WP. See, people can threaten and complain about him all they want, he's still going to get those offers because the boy can write and he ain't a half-bad interviewer too.

There is no scientific evidence in support of ABA. I couldn't be in favour of it until there was, considering how invasive it is.

Despite all the drama and politics, the author had good intentions posting interview, but words are just words, and actions always speak louder than words. Other than that, it would not be a smart move from Autism Speaks to share their real intentions either, since that would be bad press. Hope for the best, but plan for the worst.

Sorry for the long response, but the only thing I want for the Autistic community is to not feel threaten, not feel like they don't belong because of the misrepresentation you see from within Autspeaks past. If they want to learn to listen without having the dollar signs over their eyes, then so be it.

Well the answer to this is obvious.

It all comes down to money. We have money and have wisely dried up other Autism Charities funding channels and have access to huge capital comparative to anywhere else that Autistic people may look for money.
In addition to this as well as making our mark here, we have dominated on the search engines.
Let's face it, WE are fast becoming the face of Autism, it makes no sense for AFF to shirk our efforts to help them.
It is a war of attrition anyhow and they ought to be resigned to this. Slowly by degrees we will get more of a voice in congress, in International discussion, in scholarships (where graduating professional in the fields of Psychiatry, Molecular Biology, Genetics, Psychology, Pharmaceuticals, and the like will owe their ability to complete their degrees to us). and in awareness through continual bombardment of our representations of Autism to the largely ignorant community.
This is all positive and yet some Autistic organisations and individuals continue to still slight us.
Why? I have no idea.
"Be logical" is a good suggestion (or demand - either works for me).
Logically what happened in the past happened in the past. It is not logical to think it indicative to what may happen in the present or future.
So we threatened to sue a 14 year old Autistic kid over a parody site that we knew was protected through free speech from such court action, they don't need to keep going on about it. It is not like that was yesterday. That same kid is likely 18 now anyhow.
So we abused and attacked Autistics who tried to tell us that they were not brain-damaged through mercury poisoning. I think we know that is something we have come to terms with as not being causal. WE are not holding grudges over it.
So we have decided to weight our executive community with non-autistic people and have been the voice on Autistic affairs without much Autistic community input? So what? I think our representation is far more than 1.5% as it is in the community and besides we do have the interests of people affected by the Autism epidemic.
So people remember our old "I am Autism video" and such...ancient history folks, get over it.

What i see is a group of people at AFF and elsewhere who are emotionally attached to this issue and holding old hurts and not prepared to accept things as they are and move on. Too much emotion and no logic.

Autism speaks has been in large part a great bearer of real ignorance. The overtures you are making otherwise are creepy, and I'll show you why. Why do you use the word 'owe'? You make it sound like they have a duty to stick with you? And you are not the face of autism. That sounds to be quite honest imperialistic. You sound like you are fighting a war and you give no credible reason for why you should think that.

I do not understand the level of emotiuonal display here and was not seeking to undermine yourself nor THIS site. In fact my beef was with AFF.

Wrongplanet has shown and indeed pave the way for Autistic people online to have a direct relationahip through us, by virtue of Alex's efforts with his TV campaign.

Without Tambourine Man's wonderful way with words, my own words fail me somewhat. Believe me, it is all from a good place. It is the one thing with online interaction. There is not the benefit of tone of voice and body language to make intent clear.

I was not seeking at disparaging the Autistic people here in any way. Rather merely venting about the type of Autistic pretenders in AFF.
I am sure that the vast majority of Autistic people are well to stay clear of such self-limiting places.

My words on the past being the past are still important. We are an organisation that is learning and evolving. We have admitted having made mistakes. To err is human. Some were big ones but the this issue is a big one. Our passion is big and the organisation vast and knowledge and understanding is coming constantly.

We will gradually seek to increase awareness of this disease to the community, in a way it has not been bought to community consciousness. We will seek to use our influence and income to make life easier for afflicted members of the community. We will seek to support families and make life better by degrees.

We are gradually diagnosing Autism sooner and sooner. Soon we hope to be able to effectively diagnose babies as young as 12 months or younger.

We have much in the way of ongoing research and have discovered much in the way of genetic and biological markers with Autism. With the aid of genetic stockpiling, our ability to facilitate pharmaceutical aid for Autism afflicted individuals is limitless.

To show how much this means to us, consider, a few years ago we were accusing pharmaceuticals of poisoning the children and now we are looking to partner with them to progressively aid Autism ravaged individuals. There is a lot to be said to shaking hands with someone after making a mistake or two and working on from there.

I am making what I believe is passing observations as to the very bullying that you describe of AFF. The self-limiting and general unhelpfulness of AFF, an organisation set up to help Autistic people. On a site that through AutTV(?) has lead the way on opening the very doors to the type of discourse on Autism Speaks that Tambourine Man was seeking to do with AFF.
Why mention him here? Because you have been following me around on this and the other thread I wrote which was to do with him with vitirol aimed at my intents. So it makes sense that I do mention him here.
You seem to have a bee in your bonnet about this Zeraph person and I am not him and I do not care for the want to have you spouting your associative nonsense.
There is a big difference between an opinion and the truth of matters and how you breach that gap is not really my concern.
As to the diagnosing children early. Dr Geraldine Dawson and her team HAVE managed to push back the diagnosis of Autistic children to 2 years of age and are seeking to diagnose earlier. Why? To abort foteuses? How does that assist the Autistic community? It doesn't, but then truth is not what you are after here is it. Truth says that the earlier we can make the diagnosis is the earlier we can start with a diagnosis to which we can proactive put in place measure to benefit the children with Autism. You likely have an issue with this too and I know don't will hear you question the importnace of this and how on earth an early diagnosis with help children afflicted with Autism.

My mentioning Tambourine Man's wonderfully way of articulating was no slight agaiunst him but rather an effort of explaining my own efforts in articulating as concisely and positively was rather less than his because "I" communicate better with face to face communications. Autsim is not one gene in isolation.We have found many markers and many different tyoes of genes, that have an impact on this. By researching this we hope to identify such genes responsible for different aspects of Autism such as the much alluded to gut intolerances. I do not imagine that there will ever be a time that we will have a magical pill that cures Autism but we will have no doubt many different pharmaceuticals that when prescribed, will make some Autistic people less stressed, pained and overwhelmed in their life and this is through the research that we have under way. Again you find some reason to carry on about this in conspiratorial ways.

Tell me now your truth that you have the monopoly on and perhaps point out what is the difference between the undenioable truth which you seem to know a lot about and mere conjecture, supposition and perception/ Can't do it. I have now drawn the conclusion that you are just unable to think effectively and are wanting to make a random association to this Zeraph and hold onto this and construct your debate and perceptions around them. That doesn't interest me at all and i think that further trying to enter into a rational discussion with you places you at a significant disadvantage.

I'm long past worrying about these accusations. In this giant mess I have seen no solid evidence that I have been at all dishonest.
