People use the word racist to control what you say or think now days they will use it for that reason even if something isn't racist. Controlling what people say and think is very communist like.
Calling the Commies has been my go to word lately two people can play the label game to shame the other always fun to throw out pro democracy / anti commie quotes

Since when did having what you say criticized amount to being denied the right to say it? Your freedom of speech doesn't prevent others from using theirs to criticize what you've said.

I guess you don't watch the news much and see every time you turn around people loose their job because their ideas don't match what someone else says all they have to do criticize others on their own time and they get fired because everyone goes to their employer and complain so yes it is being used to control people but with that being said people are dumb to use their real name on face book twitter etc anyways as it opens you up to attack more for having an opinion

Making it out like people are getting fired simply because "ideas don't match" is disingenuous. It's not like they're being fired for saying "Pineapple on pizza shouldn't exist" " or "I hate arugula". Those are not the same thin as saying "PoC shouldn't exist" or "I hate immigrants". Arugula is not a person. Arugula is not protected by the constitution or the amendments thereof. Arugula is not protected by federal laws and acts. Because arugula isn't people. Devaluing a food and devaluing a person are not the same thing. it's not simply about the fact that they "disagree".

I get the feeling that many people overestimate the amount of protection the first amendment actually gives people.

If you expose yourself to be a horrible person who supports horrible positions some entities might not wish to associate with you. It's a natural consequence of loudly proclaiming yourself to be a bigot.

People are getting fired for tweets their partner makes.

I am think black lives matter movement is a adhock BS organization. I think black lives matter. I think the group is problematic. I couldn't express this and not get fired.

There is a difference between ignorance and malice. And when you don't give people a chance to grow, you make everything worse for everyone.

I think that rayshard Brooks death was not motivated by race. I think that the stats do not support this notion of a endemic police issue shooting black people.

You can not have have an honest discussion about facts anymore. That is problematic. This movement will solve some issues but it will unfortunately promulgate more racism and victimhood identify.

"All lives matter" is a response to "Black lives matter" implying the latter to be so-called reverse racists.
It implies that Black Lives Matter people are acting in bad faith.
It has now a meaning beyond the words there.
Ultimately, those people want the cop murder train to keep rolling, be it black or white victims like Daniel Shaver.

I tend to agree with the OP.

I Watched in horror as George Floyd’s murder unfolded in front of the camera. And then further horror as the BLM protestors first started protesting then became violent. In a pandemic, cos their cause was more important than peoples lives. Now see those cases surge.

My thinking? Had such hopes at the start of the pandemic and when we all locked down, that our society would change for the better. People like me in this new utopian society would be able to work from home, because of course the government would see how environmentally friendly it is to have people avoid commute and would make this something permanent.

Systemic racism is not the only prejudice the ‘privileged white man’ is responsible for (I’ve not met many but I see them on tv). Women still expect to be subjugated because ... well they are men aren’t they. The mentally ill and those with disorders like us are pushed to one side because some of us are useless to society. I put myself in that category. I can’t work with other people and I can’t work on other peoples timescales. But I have a good analytical, logical brain.

What about the other systemic prejudice - poverty. Or the completely taboo welfare system which I have to rely on?
What about LGBT QI plus discrimination?
I’m very glad for the black lives matter protesters getting something done. But I was hoping something more global than skin colour would come about. I absolutely agree that racism is systemic. But so are many other things.

Someone above said that all life matters in the UK is considered a racist term. Seems true, but also smacks of discrimination. and I know that black lives matter means black lives matter is too. So do women, so do the poor, so do the mentally ill, the trans community. We could have done so much more than focus on race. Prejudice is the problem. Discrimination and snobbery.

I want to advocate for autism acceptance so much, and while it’s great that blacks and LGBTs have received more attention lately, it makes me mad that autistics are still kicked to the curb. I don’t know where to join an activism group; I can’t find any in Missouri. I want to be a part of a movement, but I don’t know how to start.

There are so many bad things saying "all lives matter" and there have been good analogies explaining why. People who say all lives matter are either ignorant of the issue or are racist.

The three women who started BLM (including two queer women) aren't solely focused on race, they just understand that helping their ethnic community is likely to be especially beneficial to queer PoC, mentally ill PoC and women of colour since they're even more at risk of abuse at the hands of police. Further, one doesn't have the time or energy to fight every single battle at once, so it makes sense to pick a specific issue and exert as much force as possible there instead of spreading out too far and accomplishing nothing.

People treat the phrase 'all lives matter' as racist because it's generally used to distract from the unique issues faced by black communities.

Thanks LG, I was about to repost that cartoon yet again.

People are getting fired for being racist and people have become intolerant of it. I am sure they have always been intolerant of it but thanks to social media, people are now seeing it so they are reporting them to their company or the managers are seeing it and firing them.

Just don't put in your work place on your page and don't use your real name online, don't use your face photos when you interact on Facebook and Twitter and Reddit and other social media places.

If it's hard for autistics in general (and it often is) it's that much harder for black autistics and queer autistics, and that much more still for black queer autistics. It's great to advocate for our community, but one would be wise to ensure that while you advocate for us as a whole that you're making sure that you're not perpetuating one problem while trying to solve another.

If someone is truly confused about what is wrong with saying all lives matter and why it's so racist to say it, they will seek out that answer by searching it up online. You can find most of your answers in google these days. Back in my high school days, it was Ask Jeeves.

Educate yourself. There are books out there about racism and current issues and articles out there. It's 2020 now so people don't really have an excuse to be ignorant when you can find answers out there already.

If I'm your employer and you post racist nonsense online it might potentially draw negative attention my way. Even if it doesn't, I don't want to associate with people who are openly racist and think it's acceptable to promote or express racial hatred online.

Why should I be forced to associate with someone who is hostile to my well-being, openly expresses that they view me (or my loved ones) as a lesser person and who doesn't consider it problematic to express such views?

Even if it's not personal for the employer (like it would inherently be for me) why should they be obliged to employ someone who expresses bigoted views that have the potential to harm business? Companies are expected to do whatever will return the most profits and maintaining employment of bigots has the potential to harm profits. I see nothing wrong with a company removing a cancer in order to preserve the overall business' health.
