I hate it, too. It's incredibly annoying.

I also use "Aspergian".

then why does everyone use it on this site?!

As someone who tends to use the word it's fairly simple. Because most people I know can't pronounce aspergers correctly and it pisses me off more than using the word aspie does.

^ This, and it isn't that bad compared to all the trolls saying "assbergers" etc.

Ass burgers sounds even more annoying and stupid/insulting, and so does Aspergers because so many US Americans pronounce it almost exactly the same way as 'ass burgers'. I read on a quite a few web pages where NT people talk about people who have Asperger Syndrome and call it ass burgers, plus some 'Aspies' even type it that way on web pages. They'll type 'assburgers' or 'ass burgers' (*sigh*) and they don't know how stupid it looks. I am not picking on them, but I find it silly looking and kind of annoying.

When I first heard of the word 'aspie' I thought it was wierd, but at least sounded and read better than 'ass burgers'.

At least aspie makes me think more of asp snakes, rather than butt burgers.

When you see "Ass burgers" or "Assburgers" used numerous times in a comments section usually it's a form of bullying. One way you can tell if it is ignorance or bullying is to read what else that poster is saying. If the poster using ?Ass burgers? is saying things like Aspergers is a made up disease or an excuse for being a ?social ret*d?* you know that it is intentionally being spelled that way to mock and bully. While I understand some people do not like the word on it?s merits I suspect it is a lot of people are internalizing the bullying and that makes me very sad.

* I am intentionally using the hurtful word not to endorse it but to literally repeat language bully?s use

I noticed the WP software will automatically will replace "b" with "p" if you put "b" in the third letter of the word "Aspergers". But outside of WP if the see "b" constantly written as the third letter of "Aspergers" it might also be bullying.

The term Aspergian came about because someone didn't care for the term Aspie, and thought "Person with Aspergers" was too long to inject into conversations.

On a separate note:
In the mid-west, it gets pronounced as Oz-burgers.
I'd rather be from Oz than be a burger made from--you know.

Well as far as U.S. standards are concerned there's no such thing as an Aspie, since DSM 5 we all just have an Autism Spectrum Disorder therefor the term is outdated. I would vote for ASD, such as "I have ASD" but invariably there will be some asshat that purposely pronounces it aids.

'ASD' sounds more dignified then 'Aspie,' since 'Aspie' sounds too cutesy-wootsie and patronizing to me.

Plus people complained about 'Ass Burgers,' but what about 'Ass Pie?" That is what 'Aspie' makes me think of.

Better yet, SSD.
"What's wrong with you man, why are you such a freak?"
"I have SSD."
"What's that?"
"It's super superior disorder. I have a heightened sense of everything. I see better, hear better, and think better. I do these things so well that I get overstimulated and don't act 'normal'. What's wrong with you? Why can't you perceive as much information as me, a**hole?"
